Hi everyone. Sure could use your help.

I have a new HP 309g-m printer. Two months old.  I unplugged it to move to a different room, and replugged it in.

I am now unable to print and get a screen that the "printer is offline".

The printer is plugged in and the front panel is lit. i.e it's ready and waiting, yet nothing will print. Have turned off and on computer; have turned off and on the printer.

Help.

FINALLY. I am happy to report that my problem is now solved.

Here's what I think was going on: when I bought this printer and used it, everything was fine....except that about once a week, I would get a box that said my printer's driver was preventing my computer from hibernating (it used a different word, but the meaning is the same). I didn't pursue it.

So perhaps....by unplugging my printer and moving it all somewhere else, the driver problem finally reared it's ugly head.

AND, the problem I had when I twice DID uninstall it, and reinstalled it, is not disconnecting the USB cord. Because this time, when I did keep it disconnected, and only reconnected it when the installation process told me to....the printer then started to work.

Thank you PrintDoc!! Go eat a big bar of chocolate, or a good steak. You deserve it!!

Run the Wireless Setup Wizard from the front of the printer again (Setup > Network menu).

I am not connecting wireless. I use a Sprint card that you plug into the side of the computer, and then use cords from the printer to the wall outlet and printer to the back of my laptop.

So would your recommendation still help?

I'm wondering if I need to download the driver again?? Before, even while the printer was working fine (up until yesterday), I would occasionally get a box that would say my printer was preventing my computer from going into hibernation.  Could that explain my now-inability to print, and a box

Oh, are you using Ethernet with a powerline connection?  If so, Reset Network Defaults from the front panel of the printer.

If it is a USB connection, check the cable or replace it.

How exactly, is this thing connected to your computer?  I still do not understand.

PrintDoc, I am using a Sprint card for internet connection, and the printer is connected to my laptop with a USB port cord. So would I do your first recommendation as to resetting Network Defaults??
Otherwise, when it comes to the cords, I have TWO that I brought--and neither one is making a difference. One is THE one that was working just a day before.
When this first started, I would get PRINTER IS OFFLINE in a box. I then uninstalled, then reinstalled the driver,. Now the PRINTER IS OFF LINE is gone, but what I try to print just sits in the queue. I have turned the spooler off, then on. Nada.
Help. I so need to be using this printer.

I just discovered something!! Because of your advice, I went to the front of the printer, and then Network and PRINTED out the Network Configuration page from the front of the printer.,

So does that strongly point to my USB cords?? How could TWO cords suddenly not work, when one of them DID work just the day before and the other was working on my other HP printer just two months ago???

And, how does this explain that I got a PRINTER IS OFFLINE message when I have been trying to print, but when I reinstalled the driver, I now do NOT get that, and the document just sits in queue??

OK, never mind on the Network settings.

What operating system are you using?

Have you tried to right-click the printer in the list of printers and choose "Use Printer Online"?

Print Doc, I just right clicked on the computer, chose Print Online, and now, I get a message that says This Document failed to print..,.and there's a red question mark on top of the computer icon that shows up on the lower right....and when I go into the queue box, it says Error by the document.

OK, progress.

Double click the printer icon.  You will see stuck print jobs listed.  Select all of them then pick File > Delete all print jobs.

Does that work?

PrintDoc, I've always deleted each single Document I've tried to print when they sat in the queue.

And, I still sit here with a printer that won't work from my laptop, when it DID work just a few days ago before I came here.

I am stymied and hope you or someone can figure this mystery out!!
