Hello, my hp envy 4500 was working fine a few days ago but then we got a new router and tried to setup the printer again. However I can't get it to connect to my wifi, it is not usb connected and when I go to the wireless wizard setup all it says is : "Now searching for wirelles networks..." even though i have left it on for 8 hours. My printer is right next to the router and I am operating on windows vista. I even tried putting the old router back but nothing happened. Any response would be appreciated!

Move the printer to at least 3 feet away from the router.  Make sure the router is on a fixed wireless channel like 1,6 or 11 never 'auto'.

Replacing your wireless router try here.

My printer is at least 3 feet away and I changed my router channel to 11 as you said, but there is still no improvement. When I go to wireless wizard option it will scan for nearby networks but simply stay that way and search forever.

Make sure your router has SSID broadcast enabled.  Try typing in your SSID manually instead of searching.  Try different channels too like 1 and 6.

Where exactly do I type in my SSID manually? in the printer menu?

I don't have that printer but you 'should' be able to manually input the SSID somehow, I think.    I would try to reset the printer back to factory defaults and try again.  Make and model of new router?

I have tried connecting with WPS, but no luck(both pin and button push). I tried restoring to factory defaults but when I do, the screen on the printer/printer menu freezes. It says "Are you sure you want to restore to default? " , I press okay and it does nothing, even after waiting for hours. Is this a hardware problem? Anyways, my old router was a belkin F7D8302 Play N600 Wireless Dual-Band, and the new one is the Asus RT-N66U (dark knight). It worked with the belkin until we switched it, now it does not work on any.

Well, it's a router issue.  Let's try this, with the power on, on the printer unplug it from the wall outlet.  Wait 10 mins and plug it back in.  Now go through the front panel and try to reset it back to defaults.

We tried what you suggested but the problem persists; when asked are you sure you want to restore to default, I press okay and nothing happens. I can't go back either, it's like it froze.

I think we'll have to wait until someone from HP jumps in here to send you a message to do a 'special' hard reset to see if we can't clear this up.
