I have a HP LJ 1536 and i can print and I can scan to make a copy but the problem is that i cant scan to my computer. I have tried redownloading the software, downloading the extra drivers, turning off the firewall but I still cant get it to work. Help?

Not sure if this product has a scan button and if that is the way you are trying to scan.

But... Have you tried using Windows 8 to scan?

Go to Control Panel and then Devices and Printers.

Right-click your printer and select scan.

Does that work?

I have the scan option on my desktop but when i click on it i get an error message saying that the computer cannot communicate with the scanner. It communicates well with the printer and the printer has a scan button which makes a copy. the scanner works and makes copies perfectly. I would like to know how to successfully get a scan into my computer so i may send it as an email attachment.

Did you try the way I mentioned? Make sure the printer does not have any errors on it. Then,  In Windows 8, type control panel, go into Devices and Printers and then right-click the name of your printer and select scan. The Windows scanning interface should come up and allow you to scan. I'd like to know if this method, which is different than the HP software, works.
