Good day guys!

Happy to be here in the forum, the reason why i registered is about my Laserjet 4200n.

it just died out with 53.10.03 error, its the second time after 3 or 4 years (i guess i lost track)

anywho, i decided not to repair it but just replace it with a newer model.

and by browsing products, i stumble upon this model: HP LaserJet Pro 400 Printer M401dne (CF399A)

i dunno if its a good one, can anyone suggest a better model by price:spec ratio

thanks in advance....

hoping someone would reply to this.

greatly appreciated.

Hey bluviper,

If the Laserjet products that you are looking for are commercial, I would suggest to get your question more exposure I would try posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/ .

I hope this helps.

This is not an enterprise printer.  Major spec that you need to consider is the duty cycle for the month.  M401dne is rated up to 50,000 pages per month.  The 4200n was rated for 150,000 pages per month.  All the other specifications of the M401dne are much better than 4200n when comparing the specs.

So major difference is in the construction quality/reliability of the components to withstand the heat stresses.

I suggest looking at the Enterprise versions of HP printer products if your print duty cycle will exceed 50,000 pages per month.

Otherwise, the M401dne is a fair price for what you are getting.

Hope this helps.

I'm in the same situation -- our library 4200n needs to be replaced. This is only used by the library staff to print labels. For bigger jobs, we have an enterprise printer.

Any suggestiojns? We're looking for a reasonably priced printer that we can hand-feed the label sheets and have low-cost print cartridges (black only).

For our 4200N, we went through1 cartridge every 12-15 months. That should give you an idea how many pages we actucally print!

Thanks!

4200's are great printers. I still have a ton of 4200, 4250, 4350's in the field. For a replacement, you mainly want to look at volume.

The M402n is a nice light duty printer. I use these for my customers with less than 5 users or for a single user desktop unit printing under 5k pages per month. These will typically run about 150-250k pages before needing to replace them with a new printer. Should be considered non-serviceable for the most part, as most repairs will exceed the cost of the printer

The M506n is a more robust model- heavier duty with a slightly higher monthly volume.

The M605n would probably be closest I use or would recommend for the direct replacement workhorse for the 4200. Much more expensive, but designed to be serviceable with maintenance kits replacements coming in 250k page increments. That gets you a new fusing unit, transfer roller, and feed rollers. Bigger cartridge for a cheaper "cost per page" in the long run.

many things to consider, do you want automatic duplex printing? If so, go with the duplex model. If this will be a single, low use printer- the M402n will work in most situations- If this is a high volume multi-user workhorse- I'd go with the M605n

Here is a link direct to the printer store, I should have "Laserjet" and "Black and White" preselected for you- so you can compare prices and specs easily.

I am not a HP employee. I am a service tech on these forums researching topics and offering my best guess to aide in your troubleshooting.
