My HP Officejet Pro 6975 has an error code 0x6100004a and it also says "printer failure" on it. I tried to change the ink because it is telling me that I am out of black ink, and it should be out, but when I lift the printer cover the ink cartridges won't come to the center. The cartridges stay to the far right where I can't access them to change them. I have not uploaded any new software or drivers recently. If I try to shut the printer off, as most of the discussion here has said to do, it won't shut off. When I pull the plug and plug back in it tells me it was shut down incorrectly and gives me the error messages again. Please help! I bought this printer at Sam's a couple months ago and have had a couple issues that I was able to resolve on my own but this has me stumped.

Hi @ndarab1,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips, Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you are getting printer failure error message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6975 printer, and I'd be really glad to help you with this,

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Are you getting this error message on the computer screen or on the printer screen?

In the meantime, let's try to perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, using this website

I have not changed anything on the printer recently before the problem started. The "printer failure" message is on the printer screen.

In the past I have had trouble with the printer maintaining a wired or wireless connection with my computer. I have had to connect it myself, not sure why it loses its connection with the computer.

I cannot get the printer to center the ink cartridges so that I can remove them. I open the lid and wait but it does nothing.
