My HP Color Laserjet "Scanner" app is now asking me to "please select scan area" when I'm in Document Feeder, and it won't let me select any area (which really doesn't make sense anyway). I have seen others with this problem and the advice was to not choose custom size, but I have chosen "US Letter" and so this is VERY frustrating. Any advice. I have rebooted computer, OS 10.12.4 Mac and the Laserjet but still have this--it is a new problem, I scan all the time.
The HP Easy Scan app does work but it is scanning A4 and I can't see how to change it to US Letter, so that's frustrating too!
too much frustration... 😉

Hello @rbaltman409
Thanks for the reply! I would like to jump in with a suggestion 🙂
Let's first reset the printing systems to its default state. Follow the steps listed below:
- Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
- Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
- Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
- Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
- Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
- Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
- Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
- Click the “Add button” (+).
- Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
- Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)
Once the printer is added back, try scanning as explained below:
1) Now, go to the “System Preferences” - Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
2) Select your LaserJet printer and then click on "Scan" and select "Open Scanner".
3) Now Click on "Show Details", change the paper size if needed and then try to scan.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance please reply with the printer model number.
Good luck 🙂
