My printer connects fine, and the blue wireless light stays on all the time.  But after about 2 minutes I get a notice on the comptuer tScan to computer no longer activated the connection to the printer has been lost
, and any attempt to reach the printer (print a job, scan a job, HP Printer Doctor, etc) fails.
Printing the network page from the printer, everything looks normal except internet is listed as  not connected.

On my router, the device shows as connection inactive.

If I reboot the printer (power off all the way, and turn it back on)  it comes up and works for 2 minutes (approx) then goes down again.

If I try turning wireless off in the printer and then turn it on, I get a forever (> 5 min) blinking blue wireless light.

Since the printer says it has no internet connection, it is not an issue with firewalls or other software on my comptuer.  The issue is between the printer and the router.

Here's the info on the router:

Manufacturer Pace Plc Model 5268AC

AT&T UVerse all standard settings.  DHCP lease is 24 hrs, and I have tried setting a static IP for the printer to see if that helped, but it does not.
  Any useful input appreciated.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP forum.

Can you try this :

Create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right click the printer and left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)

Hope that helps.

Hello,

I tried your proprosed TCP/IP solution, but no joy.  The connection between the router and the printer is just going down.  Since no other devices (2 laptops, ipad, several phones, lexmark wireless printer.) do not get dropped.  It seems like it has to be something in the printer and/or the printer's interaction with the router.
As stated above, if I switch wireless off on the printer, and then turn it back on, the printer is unable to re-establish a connection.  Only shutting down the pritner and bringing it back up allows for that.
Attempts to ping the printer's IP also fail, even through the blue wireless light is on.

The print out with the IP info, states that it has no internet.  The router states that the device is disconnected.  The printer's wifi light, however, remains solid blue.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

Have you tried connecting an Ethernet cable to your printer and router?

It seems somethings is blocking the connection, what antivirus software are you using?

Is there another PC you can try to validate that it is indeed the router/PC  that is the issue?

Thanks.

I have confirmed that the problem is between the printer and the router in the following ways

1) It does work for about 2 minutes after power on.
2) after approximately that long the log on the router says that the device has disconnected.

3) The printer's diagnostic page for wireless says that it has no internet connection

4) The list of devices connected via wifi on our router no longer shows the hp device.

5) If , after 2 minutes, I click wireless off, then wireless on, the blue light blinks unend (at least over night, 12 hrs +)

I could wire the device in via ethernet, however this sort of defeats the purpose of having purchased a wifi printer, now doesn't it?  Since this is brand new, I want to see it actually work!

Hi,

Here's some wireless troubleshooting steps ;

Solve wireless problems

  1. Make sure the printer is not connected to the network through an Ethernet cable

Wireless does not work if the printer is connected to the network through an Ethernet cable. Disconnect the

Ethernet cable from the printer.

  1. Make sure the wireless light is turned on

If the blue light on the printer control panel is not lit, wireless might be turned off. To turn on wireless, touch

or swipe down the tab at the top of a screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wireless), touch

(Settings). Touch Wireless Settings, and then touch Wireless to turn it on.

If the blue wireless light is blinking, it means the printer is not connected to a network. Use the Wireless Setup

Wizard available from the printer control panel to make a wireless connection. Touch or swipe down the tab at

the top of a screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wireless), touch (Settings). Touch Wireless

Settings, touch Wireless Setup Wizard, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

  1. Make sure the computer or the mobile device is connected to the wireless network

Make sure your computer or mobile device is connected to your wireless network. If you cannot connect the

computer to the network, contact the person who set up your network or the router manufacturer; there might

be a hardware issue with the router or computer.

  1. Restart components of the wireless network

Turn off the router and the printer, and then turn them back on in this order: router first and then printer.

Sometimes, turning off devices and then turning them back on helps resolve network communication issues.

If you still cannot connect, turn off the router, the printer, and the computer, and then turn them back on in this

order: router first, then printer, and then computer

Still have problems? Visit the HP Wireless Printing Center (www.hp.com/go/wirelessprinting). This website

contains the most complete, up-to-date information about wireless printing, as well as information to help you

prepare your wireless network; solve problems when connecting the printer to the wireless network; and resolve

security software issues.

Note: If you are using a computer running Windows, you can use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, which can help

solve many problems you might have with the printer. To download this tool, visit www.hp.com/go/tools.

Hope that helps.

Hi, thanks no, this did not resolve the issue.

The printer is disconnecting from the router.  This can be seen by printing the networking diagnostic page from the printer, or by checking the list of connections on the router.  The blue light remains on, but the device does not remain connected.

I spent > an hour on chat with tech support, and they are shipping a new device. Hopefully the new one does not have hte same issue.

Did the new printer fix your problem?

I am experiencing the exact same issue, with an HP4650 and a Pace 5168N router. I've been trying all the suggestions posted so far ( static IP etc. etc. ) with no luck. I am doing this for a friend and it is getting very frustrating to say the least.

Everything looks good for a while then after about 2 minutes I also get the same "scan unable to communicate with printer" message. Then same as above problem, if I restart the printer blue lights just keeps blinking.

The friend is running Win10 on a new notebook.

I will follow this post to see if the problem ever gets resolved.

Ultimately HP sent me a replacement device, after we tried every suggestion people here, and on the online chat could come up with.
