Get Installation error  8,[(8,0,0)] so press 'OK' button to continue. Install completes - printer OK, but no scanner.

Have tried all options within 'HP Installation error' without success. 'HP Solution Centre - 'guide'  gives no action.

Appears to install all 8 sections OK, and goes to 'finish screen'. Connect printer, and 'Installing Device Driver screen' appears. Close this at conclusion of 'Device is ready to use'. The 'software configure screen re-appears, and then comes to completion, when the 'HP Solutions screen is started. I tried to scan from there, but still get the  '8,0,0' error described above. As I said, the HP Solution Centre - Guide (to a solution) either does nothing, of produces a Windows panel 'program has stopped working'. Printer/scanner HAS worked with this Win7 for almost a year, before getting this problem. Have had  the C3180 for a number of years thru Win XP & Win Vista also.

Unsure if problem is A) hardware, B) Windows, C) HP software, or D) the download file 'AIO_CDA_NonNet_Full_Win_WWW_130_140'.

Let's see. It could be any of the three issues you described. However we are going to test a few things. First first we are going to make a copy on the printer itself, see if it does that and that will prove its functional. Other hardware issues might be a faulty USB cord. So you may consider replacing that.

Then for the software I want you to uninstall it from Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and the Device Manager. Then in the start menu type "%temp%" and press Enter. Delete all the files. Some will not delete, and that is alright.

Then download the files from the website.

Make sure the USB cord is unplugged through this entire process.

When you reinstall message back there and let me know the result.

Many thanks: 1)  Have used 'HP Install Wizard for Windows' - tested to scanner, and appeared to work fine, but not via the standard 'HPSolution Center'. The resultant 'Guide' therein either does nothing, or produces Windows panel 'Program not working', after a scan trial error.

2) Have done the software process you suggested - MANY times without success. One point tho, as I run the uninstall process for all of the Photosmart linked software, whilst completing to fruition, it does produce a temporary windows panel to the effect 'UI process not found'. I press 'OK', and the uninstall process continues to finish. I have deleted the %temp%  z7* folders, and run a registry cleanup b4 reinstalling - to produce same same prob.

3) Not to bust a gut over this!

I do have a 2nd similar printer, in the form of a '2510 Deskjet All-in-one', which is working fine (on the same usb port).

How is the printer connected to your computer (USB, Ethernet, or Wireless)? There are a few things that could inhibit your use of the scanner, namely firewalls and antivirus software - do you have either on your computer? What kind?

Lastly, just as a work around here is a way to work round the communication issue through using the embedded web server for the printer (networked printers only) :

Let me know!

Many thanks; C3180 is connected via hard wire USB cable. It HAS worked with Win 7 until recently. Win firewall is off; Norton 360 firewall  is on. (this is the environment since win 7 install around a year ago).  Have used HP diagnostic software, which appears to NOT have a problem with scanning (??). Have uninstalled, cleaned registry, reinstalled many times without success.

I will give the Webscan workaround a go and report back.

Is your computer an HP machine or is it made by another manufacturer? I am going to send you some further instructions based on your response to this question, and that might be able to resolve the issue.

And to be clear, the software you ran indicated that there was no issue with scanning?

Hmmm, if that is the case you might want to go to the Services of the computer and restart the Digital Imaging Monitor (DIM). Here is a great video on that :

Lastly, can you scan using Windows Fax and Scan or Microsoft Paint? These are two functions that utilize WIA scanning - if we can do that then there would be a clear issue with TWIAN. Also, have you tried changing the USB cord? Sometimes a damaged wire can cause the information to incorrectly transfer.

Let me know and have a wonderful weekend!

PC is 'Cooler Master' running as 'Gigabyte Technology Co Ltd'. (see my profile).

Am currently trying to 'restore' the DIM (Digital Imaging Monitor - hadn't noticed this had dissappeared !!). It's not there in the startup of msconfig. Also, am hunting for cable to connect printer via network, to try the 'work around' mentioned previously.

HP Recommended

If the DIM is gone, that would likely be the source of the issues. If you can get that process back up on your computer this issue should resolve itself.

If you can't get the DIM back, I would contact MS support and see if there is anything they can do to assist you.

I have the same problem

I upgraded to Windows 10 and now cannot use my scanner. I have a Photosmart C3180. I have downloaded the new driver. I have also downloaded HP print and scan doctor. If I use the doctor to do a test scan it works perfectly. I get a scan. But I don't know how to do a scan without going through the scan doctor. I have no icon and going into parameters using Windows 10 doesn't give me the options that Windows 8 did.

How can I start a scan or open the printer without using scan doctor?

Thanks
