Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fnw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My new LaserJet Pro MFP M477fnw is connected to the network but none of my devices find it.  I have tried powering down the printer, my computer, the router and re-starting everything.  Didn't work.

Called my Internet provider, they set up a new network, powered everything down, restarted, re-connected to the new network. Didn't work.

I should mention that I had a different new HP Laserjet with the same problem.  Spent 3.5 hours on HP chat.  Didn't work, so I took that printer back and got the M477 and am having the same issue.

I have also tried installing the drivers via USB connection and that fails as well.

Any other ideas?

You can check to see if / how your printer is actually showing up on your network.

In the simplest of checks, use the cmd line on your computer and ping the printer's IP address.

Windows key > type / search cmd > Right-Click Run as Administrator

In cmd window > type:  ping 192.168.1.15

You can also use a (free) program to see who / what is on your network.

Your complete solution is going to depend on how the printer is connected to the network, whether the printer is indeed actually connected as expected, and the printer program used to access the printer features.

One of the easier ways to install the printer and set it up on the network is to install the Full Software package.   The procedure includes printer detection (of the printer on the network) and the installation of the printer program used to interface with the printer features.

Preparations include and are not limited to:

  • If you are connecting the printer using a USB cable, disconnect the cable before you install the printer software program and only connect the USB cable when directed (during the later part of the installation process).

  • If you are connecting the printer to the network with an Ethernet cable (from printer to router), do have the Ethernet Cable connected at the time you start the installation of the software.

  • If you are using a wireless connection, you can (if you like) provide a Static IP address for the printer on your router.
  • Do switch on the printer, do check / confirm the Wireless setup is correct.

See Chapter 9, Page 156 >> Section:

Wireless connectivity checklist

  • Wireless Mac Filtering:  IF you are using WiFi Mac Address Filtering (on the router), you will want to add your printer's Mac address to the router's filter list.  If you do not know what this is, you are likely not using Mac Filtering.

Help, suggestions, and examples:

Install Full Feature Software – Printer

NOTE: If the computer has been recently migrated to Windows 10 or if you need to re-install the printer software:

  1. Create a Restore Point >
  2. Download a fresh copy of the Full Feature software >
  3. Remove the existing printer software from Programs and Features / Apps and Features >
  4. Restart the computer and log in >
  5. Install Full Feature Software >
  6. Reboot

Pam,

I am hoping you can help me. I'm having the same problem. Been on phone and chat for hours with both HP and my service provider. Neither can fix the issue. Very frustrating and taking a lot of work time.

How did you get this resolved? Please let me know.

Thanks,

Mark
