Photosmart 2610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer is old enough that it is not supported any more. However if I load my original disc and additional discs I get the original printer manager,  Then sometime later HP sends me updates and then my printer manager window changes and my printer can no longer scan. The Manager window says that my printer is not connected. I can still print and Fax.  I have repeated this process a couple of time and the same thing occurs after some period of time.  It looks as though I have lost

the scanner driver portion of the software, or a pointer is sending it somewhere else. The printer is a photosmart 2610 and

I am using Windows 10 64bit OS. I have used this printer with it's upgrades since Windows 95.

The HP Update program might be the reason for the printer driver update attempts.

In your case, because the printer is so long out of support, switch OFF the check for updates.

Open HP Update:  Start / Windows key > Search and Open HP Update

Set Notification options:

HP Update > Settings    > Check / Select Notify me before checking web for Updates >

Check Every (and select when)

OR Check Never > OK

If you are using HP Support Assistant it is unlikely that your printer is "attached" to the program.

If you like, check HPSA and set that program, too, to Notify you when HP Updates are available.

See Dragon Document Section:

  • HP Support Assistant

Subsection > HPSA > Set to Notify / Check Updates

Finally, there is a Full Feature Software driver available for your vintage printer:

Full Feature Software V14.0.304.5 W8-W10
