When I try to print, the printer goes into the "Aligning Printer" mode and prints several pages. They have blue, red and yettow stripes on the outside of the paper and various patterns of all red small bars on the inside except for the bottom row which is all yellow bars. at the bottom of the page are alternating yellow, red and blue small bars in one row. After several minutes, it gives me an "Alignment failed. Refer to device documentation for details" message.
I have had this printer for a few years and it has always worked great. When this first started, it would print a few pages perfectly and then would print the rest with just a few lines (especially headers) throughout the page. If I came back a few hours later, it would print several more good pages. I replaced the black cartridge about a week ago.
I have turned it off, unplugged it, pulled out the ink cartridges and put them back in, pulled out the print heads and put them back in. I have also cleaned the printheads several times, but the issue is with the black printing.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 Premier All-in-One Printer and it gives an alignment failure error after printing a few pages. I read that the black cartridge was replaced about a week ago. You have reseated the cartridges and printhead and even cleaned the printhead several times.
I appreciate the steps performed by you and have certainly done a commendable job.
I would like to know the following information to assist you better:
- Did the alignment process complete successfully when the black cartridge was replaced?
- Are all the ink cartridges genuine HP cartridges?
- Did you manually try to perform the alignment process.
Meanwhile, I request ou to perform the below steps to fix the issue:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
If the alignment failure message continues to appear on the printer then please perform the steps as describe din detail from this link: HP inkjet printers - Alignment issues and errors
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Feel free to let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂

All these unresponsive things are happen due to wrong drivers. Check the update for your drivers. If the update is available then please don't neglect it just doenload it and do a print test again. If printing is proper now then it's all ok and you fix your problem successfully, but in case if again the same situation occurs then there might be a serious hardware problem for that you have to diagnose your printer properly and fix the error. Therefore, for this purpose check Hp Officejet Pro 8500 Manual and follow are guidines written in it.
