Hi DebbieN,

You need WIndows 8.1 to use this new app.   Just open the "Store" link from Windows 8.1 start screen, and then do a search for HP Scan and Capture.

Here's a link to the app in MS's store:  http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/94fffdd0-bb3b-4adc-96ca-24c1d79e16c6

I'm having troubles getting HP Scan and Capture 1.4 for WIndows 8.1 for my PhotoSmart 2710 All-In-One.  When I click the link you show or select "store" in the start up menu,  a full screen of green comes up with a shopping bag picture in the center which has a Windows logo on it.  If I get the chance,  I move the curser over the title bar and it changes to show the word "Store".  But then, by no action on my part, the screen minimizes to an icon on the task bar.  When I try to maximize it again it full screens again for a few seconds and then minimizes once again.  The only thing I can do is close it and try again getting the same results.

Any suggestions?

By the way I've got Win 8.1 64 bit.  I'm assuming this is not a problem.

Very disappointed in scan & capture when I updated to Windows 8 that was the only program that downloaded for officejet 8600-910. This program is restricted as it only allows me to scan as jpeg & pdf !! When using the same printer with Windows XP, I was able to scan jpeg, pdf, & EDITABLE TEXT.  I was able to edit & email directly from that window.  I've been searching for a programs to allow editing text scans with little luck thus far.

Hi gocchino,

You can still download the original software for your 8600 from HP support site from hp.com website.   That will give you the desktop solution that supports editable text.

I am an HP employee, however, this content reflects my personal opinion and is in no way associated with HP.

I am sorry, but I had an email from someone on this forum and they said the scanning of negatives and individual pictures was impossible.  So, I just quit.

OK, it works - it even scans.  I sound surprised, but I keep getting a dialogue saying that the Scanner is not reachable.

But it appears to only work in inches.  How do I switch it to use mm for measurements?

HP Recommended

Yes, you can download the old software.  it won't install on W8 however.

Inspite of having account with Microsoft (hotmail) account, I couldnt get this software installed. I am very much disappointed with HP and the way they distribute the software. I didnt buy the HP Printer from Microsoft Store or anywhere else, I bought from HP and HPs responsibility to provide the software without jumping thru hoofs.  Its vaste of time trying to fix this printer working. I should take this rightaway back to the store.

Got it work. Had to Google it and found answer in another forum.
