HP Photosmart C4280 All-In-One
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

PLEASE READ COMPLETELY BEFORE RESPONDING

I own a Macintosh with OS X 10.10.5. I also own a HP C4280 Printer. Now I've scavenged every nook and cranny of this website and many others. I've read every conceivable document on the printer, every forum related to it. I've been to the driver page on HP however there are no downloads and everytime I click on it it takes me back to where I was.

This printer was given to me used, so there's no CD. I've managed to find a Driver/Installation file on a 3rd Party website but it still won't recognize the printer. My computer won't recognize the printer either. Nothing will recognize the printer.

On top of that, I've managed to reset the printer. Come to find now that it perpetually displays the message: "Insert Ink Cartridges". Even though there's a black ink cartridge already in there with clean contacts. Now for some reason, I cannot reset the printer again.

I am so confused right now that I've given up trying to do this myself and will take any help I can get. Please help me out.

Thank you.

Hi @BubbyAh,

I understand that you are having issues while installing the printer in MAC 10.10. I am afraid there is no downloadable driver version for this model printer in MAC 10.10. You need to first connect the printer to the MAC using a USB or connect the printer to the network over wireless (follow the steps here: Click here ). Once the printer is connected, then follow the steps below to install the printer on your MAC.

  • However, in an Apple update, there are inbuilt print and scan drivers available for this printer model. Please follow the below steps to install the Mac inbuilt printer drivers.
  • Please download the Mac inbuilt drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2flF56z
  • From System Preferences, click on Print & Scan.
  • Click the Plus sign.
  • Select the listed Photosmart C4200.
  • Click the drop-down menu next to Use or Print Using and click on Select Printer Software.
  • Select the Photosmart C4200 from the list.
  • Click OK to confirm your selection and add the printer, then try printing using the configured print queue.
  • Post performing the above steps, you may try to use the Apple Image capture and test the scanning. I hope this information helps.

For scanning, I would suggest you download and install HP Easy Scan and Image capture for Mac - Click here

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help.
