I've had this printer about 2 weeks. When received I installed all software, it took a few atempts to successfully complete the 'Network device installation' step but eventually it worked. A few days later I was unable to print with the print que displaying a 'printer offline' message. I ran the print and scan doctor and although after several attempts it stated to have fixed the print que the 'offline' message was still displayed and I was still unable to print anything other than the test page. I searched the web for asnwers to no avail so uninstalled all hp software with the view to re-install:
• downloaded (from 123.hp.com) and reinstalled the envy 5640 software
• launch the softare and click connect new device
• select wireless connection
• after network check completes I select my printer and cick next
the following 'Network Device Installation' sreen just hangs for several minutes, and eventually fails. I have attempted the installation repeadely but the result is always the same.
Please someone help I have a printer that I can do absolutely nothing with and feel very frustrated.

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
Can you try this Uninstaller from Microsoft and then reinstall the FULL feature software again?

Let us know if that works!

Thanks, but it did'nt work.
I downloaded the microsoft uninstaller, it uninstalled all hp software, previous downloads and desktop icons. I downloaded a fresh install from 123.hp.com and re-installed but again it fails at 'Network device installation' the scrolling green bar page hangs for 5 minutes and results in a page stating 'Unsucessful network installation, the device was unable to be installed over the network'. I'm offered re-try or return to connection options links so I have to force quit the installer (which is rubish, why no quit/close option).

I realy need some help with this. I ultimately need to use the printer wirelessly but if I was able to complete installation using a usb cable could I later switch to a wireless conection? Does a wireless connection use the same printer driver as cable connection.
Thanks.

HI,
If you can install via USB for the FUL feature software, you can convert it to wireless.
These 2 videos show how it's done:
HP Envy 4520 Download and install software and connect with USB connection- Part 1
HP Envy 4520 Convert a USB connected printer to Wireless Connection – Part 2
Hope that helps!

Another fail, when trying to connect deveice via usb it keeps telling me to connect the printer using a cable even though it is already connected. I tried clicking 'connect later' which creates the correct envy icon in the devices and printers control panel and the printer will then print with the cable connection however when I remove the cable the printer shows an offline status and if i try and connect wirelessly I am back to the scrolling green bar 'Network device installation' screen that fails.

I have spent hours trying to get this useless printer to work, I am utterly pissed off. I cannot find any tech support UK telephone numbers or email addresses other than a paid support service but I do not feel it is reasobale that I should have to pay for tech support for a product that has never worked correctly through no fault of my own.
Does a Hewlett packard offer any tech support?
