I thought I mentioned in my last post that I got rid of the printer. I used the XL cartridges, all were purchased from reputable dealers, all were up to date as far as warranty dates were concerned.  The color cartridge showed empty within hours after installing and nothing was printed except for a test page. I would  get the empty message, pop out the cartridge and wait a minute put it back in and it would print perfectly, then the next time I had to repeat the same sequence until finally it would always give the empty message. Either the entire batch of cartridges that were made over the past three years were defective or it was the printer.

I really don't know how I could make that any more clear, I still had the boxes and the plastic protector they were sealed in as well as the receipt. I also took the color cartridge to Office Depot and it was verified that the color cartridge was full.

I hope I have better luck with my new printer.

Hi ctpchatty,

Thank you for the update. I am just providing the information about the warranty on the cartridges. Sorry to hear you no longer have the printer, and I wish you the best of luck with your new printer. Have a wonderful day.

I have this same problem with an Officejet pro 8500 A919g

This is supposedly a high-end inkjet printer. I have purchased two

new ink cartridges to replace the magenta that is supposedly empty.

The latest expiration date is in 2016. Neither new HP cartridge resolved

the problem, so printer refuses to print anything, not even in B&W.

This appears to be a design flaw, or perhaps the printer is in need of some

sort of maintenance, but it would be nice to know what maintenance is needed:

is some ink channel blocked for instance?

The printer does not print:

Error message is:

"Cannot print

Replace the following ink cartridges to resume printing"

Clicking > gets additional information:

"The printer does not have enough ink to ensure printer health. The empty ink cartridges must be replaced to resume."

Hello mykinnc,

Welcome to the ForumsSmiley Happy

I saw your post about the ink cartridge error message you have been seeing on your Officejet Pro 8500 model. Although I understand you have attempted some troubleshooting for this problem already, I do suggest having a look at the guide I posted below for you. This guide targets this exact problem and may help clear up the error message.

If you have already performed some of these steps, skip them.

I have exactly the same problem as mykinnc.

Same model printer, same issue with the Magenta cartidge. HP 8500A Plus

I purchased a genuine (as I always do) HP XL multi pack and replaced Cyan and Yellow no problem. Then Magenta needed doing two days later, replaced it and it intially reverts to being all ok, then two/three seconds later comes up cannot print, replace the Magenta cartidge.

Reading other forum suspected it might be faulty cartridge although it has a warranty date of 2016/10/26).

Yesterday I purchased another Magenta cartidge (XL) and tried it yesterday today (warranty date 2015/11/22).

No luck the excat same problem.

I have sleaned the contacts, cleaned the ink connection, checked firmware is up todate and everything else.

4 hours of my time wasted, 40 miles round trip to purchase the cartridge, more than £100 of ink cartridges sitting here and in the printer unable to use.

Please advise what the next steps are short of me throwing this out of the highest window in this building!

Ohh and I should also add that the troubleshooting instructions are utter rubbuish.

There is no solution five, step one Print test report listed under settings.

Anyway I am unable to print because the printer thinks it has no magenta ink!!!

I have tried running test and alignment pages but no joy!

have had your all in one printer for over a year and have never got to use it...after I set it up and did a test page, the ink cartridges tanked out...not pleased at all with your lousy product..you should be ashamed of yourselves for selling a printer with no ink in the expensive ink cartridges,,,you suck HP..
