Having a problem printing with my new HP 3636 printer.

A test page can be printed from the HP Printer Assistant. No other application can print; not even the HP Print & Scan Doctor.

What's happening is that jobs go to the print queue as normal, then after a few seconds they disappear. No error messages are shown.

My setup is a desktop PC connected to the printer via USB. There is no wireless, and there are no other machines to try the printer with.

So far I have tried:

Uninstalling drivers and software, then re-installing after a restart

Turning off the print spooler service, then restarting the PC

Running the print and scan doctor - no errors found

Uninstalling drivers, restarting PC, reinstalling drivers again having swapped usb port to a USB2.0 port (the others on this machine are USB3)

Clearing temporary files

Disabling antivirus (Avast)

Uninstalling the drivers again, then using the built-in drivers following this guide: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879

Nothing so far has got the printer to print more than a test page. I'm on the verge of taking it back to the retailer - is there anything else I should try?

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Deskjet 3636 printer. I understand that the print job disappears and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

  • Uninstall the HP driver and software.
  • Rename the HPBXPSRENDER.DLL file.
  • Download and install the print driver.
  • Click here and refer the document to perform above steps.

Let me know if that works.

Cheers.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

HPBXPSRENDER.dll does not appear to be anywhere in the "spool" folder - it is not where the guide suggests it should be, and I have used search to look in subfolders. (I also looked manually in System32\spool\drivers\x64\3 - definitely not there)

Since it's not there, that suggests that it's not the source of the issue? Or perhaps its absence is the problem?

Thanks for the reply.

Superb job on trying the different steps to isolate the issue.

I request you to contact HP Phone support for further assistance on this.

Cheers.
