HP OfficeJet 6500A
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer acts as though it is printing, but nothing appears on the paper.  All new HP ink cartridges.  No error messages.  I have attempted to do automated print head cleaning, but no change.   If I shut the printer down completely, then restart, it will SOMETIMES print a document, then for no apparent reason, will again stop printing.

@SternHolmes,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are unable to print from your HP Officejet 6500A e-All-in-One Printer even with the new cartridges installed.

This issue could occur if the printhead is defective or the drivers may not be updated or the correct port may not be selected.

Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue.

In order to isolate the issue between the printhead and drivers, we need to print a print quality report and check if all the colors are printed.

Steps to Print a print quality report:

  1. Load letter or A4, unused, plain white paper into the input tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow () to display the second navigation screen.

  3. Touch the Setup icon (). The Setup Menu displays.

  4. Touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Reports.

  5. Touch Print Quality Report. The print quality report prints.

If all the colors are not printed, then you may need to follow the steps from the link: Fixing Print Quality Problems

If all the color are printed, then you may need to follow the steps from the link: http://hp.care/2ps2TOh

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Thanks for your attempt to assist me.  When I do a test print, NO COLORS appear on paper, although all cartridges are new.  I have attempted to do an automated printhead cleaning, several times.  The printer "acts" and sounds like it is printing, but no ink appears.

@SternHolmes,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that the issue has not resolved after following the steps mentioned in the previous interaction.

This could be a hardware issue with the printhead and may need to be replaced.

If you are located in the US, then you may follow the steps listed below:

  1. Go to the HP Parts Store website (in English).

  2. Under Find your part(s), type CN643A in the Search by part number text box.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to order the printhead assembly.

When you have the replacement printhead, go to Replacing the Printhead for detailed instructions to remove the old printhead and install the new one.

If you are not located in the US then you may need to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance at the link: www.hp.com/contacthp
