OfficeJet 5740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My OfficeJet 5740 printer has become extremely niosy when printing out. How can I rectify this?

Please describe the sound - is it a grinding sound as the paper picked up and readied to be printed, or a screeching sound with every swath of the print carriage moving back and forth?  If the sound is a screech in sync with the carriage moving back and forth then it may help to open the lid as if you were going to change  a cartridge.  Unplug the printer, then put one (no more!) drop of a light oil like 3-in-one oil on the carriage rod.  Move the carriage back and forth a few times to distribute the oil.  Close the lid, plug the printer back in, turn it on and try printing a page.

I think its more of a screeching noise as the paper is going through the various rollers. Maybe I could record the noise on my mobile and send a file to you?

If I do try the drop of oil solution, could I use something like WD40?

You may be able to attach a .zip file here - when doing a reply there will be an Attachments  Choose File dialog below the text box, just above Cancel and Post buttons.

Do not use WD40, it will leave a sticky residue as the solvents evaporate.  Get a light machine oil, sewing machine oil or 3-in-one oil.
