How do I scan a document so I can edit it??  I have an icon that says IRIS registration, which I have done.  It put icons on that send me to READIRIS and wanting me to purchase software.  If I didn't have the software, why was there a registration software icon?  Looking online at the website the icon takes me to, it says it should be imbedded in my printer software, but I have no options to save it as such.  Please help?!?!?!

Hi,

When registing the software, your printer MUST be on a list (means you already paid for it) otherwise this won't work. I don't know the mechanism of adding software to your machine but new machines always come with trial software and we have to pay if we wish to use after a number of days. The following images show my test:

Thank you for responding.  Never had any screens like yours.   My icon says I.R.I.S. OCR Registration.  I clicked on it, filled out the information.  It then placed a shortcut/icon for I.R.I.S Resource center.  When I click on the registration icon now, I get a "Thank you.  Your I.R.I.S OCR Software is already registered successfully" page with an option to go to the Resource Center.  Resource Center website wants me to spend money to UPGRADE to Readiris.  When I went to support, I found an area that says it is embedded in my HP software and gives instructions to use it.  When I do as it states, I do not have the options it says I should have.  I would copy and paste what I see, but this site isn't letting me do that.

Hi,

That means the software IS on/in your machine. If you wish to upgrade to NEWER version you have to pay more otherwise keep using the existing version. This software allows you to scan to editable text/documents, searchable PDF files.

I would totally agree, however, I cannot figure out how to scan to an editable document.  I can scan to PDF (and it works great!), but PDF is the only option it gives me.  Can you or anyone else tell me how to scan to an editable document, especially since I think the software should be w/ the machine????  Thank you, again, for responding!!!

Hi,

I can only find manual for Mac:

    ftp://217.64.246.26/support/oa/opt/manuals/rimac/ri12pro/Readiris-12-Pro-Mac-User-guide-ENG.pdf

Please go to the following site to get more user guides:

    http://www.irislink.com/c2-2422-189/I-R-I-S----Support---Technical-Support.aspx

Basically, open the software (not HP Scan) and start to scan then save to Word, Excel, PDF..... or open files the convert to editable documents.

Hi misspiggy,

So here are the things you need to ensure to be able to use the embedded OCR function built into the scanner driver and scan preview application.

  1. make sure you have downloaded the FULL driver for your device from HP.com.  For the OJ 4630, its located here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5305...
  2. Assuming you have the full feature driver installed and working, go to the control panel Devices and Printers and open the HP Officejet 4630 Series.  You should see the HP Printer Assistant item.  Double click that.
  3. That should open the printer Assistant.  Double click the Scan a document or Photo item to open scan dialog.
  4. Assuming your PC is properly communicating with printer, the Scan Dialog should open with options to scan Document to file (.rtf ) or Searchable PDF.  Note the OCR functionality is built into the scan app.  there is no separate OCR app.  its free as part of the full feature scan app.  See picture below.  Hope this helps.

I've dl'd everything and can't figure out hoe to use iris.  I can't eve find the program, and have gonr through the same merry-go-round as the OP.  Now I've tried to follow your latest directions, but when I click on the printer, there's no HP printer Assistant item.  Why is this so arcane?  My Lexmark printer puts the OCR shortcut on the desktop.  You double click and are ready to go.

Where does it say it's only good for five days?  If so, this is just bait and switch.  I'm very disappointed.
