I've had this printer for less than three years and I've probably used it less than 20 times. I recently booted my printer up in an attempt to print some things and received the following error: Indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer. I have checked all specs of the cartridges that I purchased and believe they are the correct replacement cartridges.  I also replaced the black cartridge with a brand new cartridge just to see if that would help - nothing. I completed a printer reset as indicated in other discussion posts, removed and re-added the cartridges, and I even tried to update the firmware, but was alerted to this message, "Cannot update this device. This Firmware Updater does not contain updates for your device." I have also tried to put the old cartridge back into the printer while troubleshooting and it still gives me the same error message. It's important to note that I've changed cartridges before and have ordered the same exact ones I am currently having issues with. Please help!

Hi @LaurRae16

If you have already performed the steps from the document Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Hope this helps!

I have the same problem with the OfficeJet 3830.  Went to print and got the error message "at least one of your printer cartridges has a problem."  Tried all of the diagnostics, firmware upgrades, cleaning heads, everything.  Nothing worked.  Have only owned the printer for just over 1 year, and it is now off warranty.  Bought it directly from HP because I thought they would stand behind their machines.

Best part is that HP won't even allow me to speak to a CSR or a tech.  Even worse, part of their diagnostic process is to remove the old cartridges and install new ones.  So now I am not only out the $120 cost of the printer, I'm out another $70.00 for now-useless new, opened printer cartridges.  This is a gross example of horrible customer service, and may force me to go to an alternative manufacturer.
