Officejet 7410
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to set up the 7410 to print wirelessly (without a router if possible).  Currently it is set up for a USB connection and works fine--the current software is installed.  I tried to set it up without the router by restoring network defaults and trying to connect to the "hpsetup" network shown.  After a long time it told me it couldn't connect.  Then I tried adding a router and connecting it that way.   I uninstalled the printer and then reinstalled it for a wireless connection--attempted to, anyway.  When I got to where it asks for what kind of connection, I said wireless, and it asked for the IP address of the printer, I entered it according to the info the router gave me, and at this point, on the printer itself, it said it was connected to the wireless network, but when I went back to the installation screen and gave it the IP address, it cannot find it to complete the wireless installation.  So according to the printer, it's on the wireless network but the setup on the computer cannot find it.  I tried a couple of things but am stumped now.  Suggestions?  thanks

Hi Brettsears,

First, confirm that the printer and computer are on the same wireless network.  After that, go to Add/Remove programs and remove all instances of the 7410 software AND drivers.  Then from Devices and Printer in Control Panel, right-click any instances of the 7410 and Remove Device. Reboot your computer, and then install these drivers: OJ 7410 drivers.  At the network connection screen, choose Wireless and then let it scan for the printer. Once found, select it and proceed with the installation.  If you are still having problems, check out this doc: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05195282

Hi Brettsears,

Looks like you need a router for your printer to use it wirelessly. Many newer HP printers do support Wi-Fi direct or HP wireless direct which let you establish a wireless connection without having to join an existing network.

Have you tried connecting the printer to the network with the wireless setup wizard on the printer?

  1. Press the Setup (wrench) button on the printer.
  2. Press the Down Arrow to highlight Network, and then press OK.
  3. Press the Down Arrow to highlight Wireless Setup Wizard, and then press OK. The Wireless Setup Wizard searches for networks, and then displays them in a list.
  4. Press the Down Arrow  to highlight the network name (SSID) and then press OK.

If the network name does not appear in the list, follow these steps:

Press the Down Arrow to highlight Enter New Network Name (SSID), and then press OK. The on-screen keyboard displays on the control panel.

Enter the SSID: Use the four-way arrow buttons on the product control panel to highlight a letter or number on the on-screen keyboard, and then press OK to select it.

When you finish entering the SSID, use the arrow buttons to highlight Done on the on-screen keyboard, and then press OK.

Press the Down Arrow to highlight Infrastructure, and then press OK.

Press the Down Arrow to highlight WEP encryption or WPA encryption, and then press OK.

NOTE: If you are not using WEP encryption, press the Down Arrow button to highlight No, my network does not use encryption, and then press OK

If prompted, enter the WPA or WEP key. Use the arrow buttons on the product control panel to highlight a letter or number on the on-screen keyboard, and then press OK to select it.

NOTE: Make sure that you enter the uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters exactly. Otherwise, the wireless connection fails When you finish entering the key, use the arrow buttons to highlight Done on the on-screen keyboard, and then press OK.

After you connect to your router, download and install the driver from HP.com. It helps to have the printer connected first so the driver installation can find the printer to complete the process.
