Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I have an Officejet 6970 all in one printer with the following problem. I travel for a living and every time is is not printing for more than 5 days it won't print. I have to :

1. Clean the printer twice

2. Maybe a third time

I've tried leaving it on or shutting it totally off- doesn't make a difference. I've had it for 3 months and gone through 3 sets of cartirdges while printing less than 100 pages.

Is the problem with the printer, software or ink? I only use HP ink.

Thanks

Greetings @5JD6,

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are unable to print if you leave the printer idle for 5 days or so. You need to go through the cleaning process to be able to print again.

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

I will be glad to assist you.

Have you updated the firmware on the printer?

Is the printer kept away from direct sunlight?

Are you using genuine HP ink?

Recommend you update the firmware on your printer by downloading it from this link

Please have the printer connect to your computer using a USB cable. (Please use a computer running on Windows for this purpose)

If you do not have a computer running on Windows. If the printer is connected to your wireless network, you go to setup option on the printer's front panel.

Then select Web services and check for printer update.

Once the firmware is updated, you can observe the print quality after leaving it idle for some time.

If the issue persists, please align and clean printhead following Step 11 and 13 in this article
