"Unable to scan, copy or send a fax" is displayed on the Officejet 7610 when i switch it on.

The machine is new (1 monyh old). I have been able to copy and fax. The error just showed up today, and will not go away. Tried all hints in support-section (unplug power while switched on, plug directly into a wallsocket, update firmware). I also tried with HP ScanDoctor: this fails in 2nd check, telling me to try HP Support..

Any help (other then "try to switch it off and on again") from HP ?

Hello,

Do you have an issue making a copy?

HP Recommended

I'm sorry for my poor English

I typed it more slowly this time

Unable to copy, scan and fax,

due to an error that is called

"Cannot copy, scan or fax"

Hope this makes my problem easier to understand.

I am having the same problem. The only thing that works is the print function. Mine, However, has NEVER copied or scanned.

Hi, before the error message "Unable to scan, copy or send a fax" appeared on the display. did the scanner moved after power was applied to the printer?

HP Recommended

Yes it did.

After troubleshooting with HP it appears to be an internal malfunction and we are getting the printer replaced.

When I was unpacking the "NEW" printer, I got the documentation off the top and there was a hand written note that said "bottom scanner does not work".  This is a BRAND NEW FROM THE FACTORY PRINTER!!!!!!!!!

I am sending this one back as well and looking for another brand.

VERY dissappointed in HP products.

Well well I have found a solution to the scan not working thanks HP for sending people in circles.

I have uninstalled any downloaded deivers and started by using the supplied CD I then installed the UPDATE which should be for

"Critical HP Software Update to fix issue that prevents the ability to claim HP Rewards".

Well of more importance it fixed the scan issue for me after following HP's advice for 2 hours without any joy I seem to have resolved the issue.

Try this and see

Thanks I hope this works but have to restart the computer and may not be able to find you again 🙂

I've been fighting this issue for about four hours now on the printer I just installed a few days ago.  All the tests passed until I actually went to fax a 'real' bid this morning :Surprise:  "SCANNER FAILURE - can't copy, fax or scan" - lol, that's not what I thought was All-In-One - the error code; My new Epson WF630 took about 2 minutes to install and does everything from across the room.

Like you, I've been going in circles and jumping hoops with HP and the 'wrong' links to 404's, HP doctor.

Okay, restarting my computer (third time today)  and hope I can find you to give the results!

Sorry, this did not work.  I guess I'll call HP because the 14 day return limit will be up.  Very unhappy.

Can I ask where you purchased the printer? These printers are manufactured in some Asian country, so they couldn't have wrote that note in English. I bet someone had a bad scanner and returned the printer, and the store did nothing and packed it back up and sold to you.
