i have purchaced an officejet 7740 printer and i'm now trying to set it up. it seems that this printer with 2 paper trays can only print from one paper source in windows 10. the only way i seem to be able to print to different paper sizes is to change the paper size in the printer setting every time i need to change sizes. the other option i have seen here in these forums is install the printer twice. change the settings for the 2 paper sizes and print to the specific printer with the paper size i want.
so, does the driver software for this printer have the abillity to set multiple paper sizes automaticly in windows 10? or should i return this printer and buy something that can?

Non off the HP consumer grade inkjets are able to auto select the paper tray.
What you are looking for is available on enterprise printers.

this really seems to be a driver issue, not a printer issue. if i tell the software package to print on a specific size the printer uses the corect paper / tray. if i just blindly hit print then it only get the size that is set in the printer prefs.
i guess what i want is drivers for windows that can set 2 seperate paper sizes and auto select the page size.

It is also a hardware issue & the 7740 does not have this capability.

this printer does support auto tray seclection. You can select auto tray selection from driver side. You can also do tray management from printer side. There is a menu called tray management you can play with. You can pull down the setup menu from printer display. choose setup by touching top left icon and then look for tray management. Then you can set default tray and paper size. Hope this helps.
