Officejet Pro 8610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Today I started getting the error "Cartridge Problem" and that "One or more cartridges appear to be damaged." on my Officejet Pro 8610 printer that is only about 2.5 years old.   I have genuine HP cartridges that were refilled about 10 months ago at Costco.  I've already tried multiple times all the recommended steps of removing/reinserting cartriges, cleaning electrical contacts, and unplugging printer which were of no help.  The cartridges that appear to be damaged change with each time I attempted to perform a fix, e.g. it could be either M or Y or C or B or multiple cartridges.  Given the randomness of what cartridge(s) appear(s) to be damaged I don't want to buy new ones for ~$80 as I have my doubts that's the issue and I might as well put that $80 toward a new printer.  Any assistance would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hello, @dpeter – Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a fantastic location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I see that you are facing issue with the refilled cartridges on your Officejet printer. First off, try to update the printer firmware. Go to http://hp.care/2o7nqnV to download and update the firmware.

Restart the printer once done.

If the issue persists, try to reseat the print head 3 times. i.e remove the print head, close the door, reinstall the print head. Repeat the process for 3 times and check.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Cheers 🙂

Tried this: "Go to http://hp.care/2o7nqnV to download and update the firmware", but when I got to update, it shows that it identified my printer, however it's grayed out and does not allow me to select on my printer to update firmware. Status shows up to date, however I've never updated this before. Please advise.

P.S. - Similar to @dpeter, I refilled my HP cartriges at Costco and my black ink cartridge is "damaged". I tried cleaning and resetting it several times, to no avail.
