Officejet Pro 8620 only installs basic software

HP Recommended
Officejet Pro 8620
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The printer disappeared one day and I can not get it reinstalled.  With no HP software showing under programs and features except 8620 help.  Tried to install the full software package and it only does a basic device installation - it thinks the printer is already installed. HP scan and printer doctor does not fix the problem, it wants a full installation done - no can do.

Need a tool to completely remove all HP printer software and registry items.  I have a laserjet that uninstalls and reinstalls correctly, but it is a printer only.

Thanks for any help, kicking my you know what!!!!

Hi @LSUfan4ever,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are facing issues with your HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer wherein the full feature software does not get installed.

This issue could occur if the older drivers are not completely removed.

Let's go through a few steps to uninstall and reinstall the drivers:

Step 1: Uninstall the Drivers:

Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)

Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.

Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:

  1. Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing one of the following:
    • Click the Start menu and in the search field type 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click it in the search list.
    • Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK.
    • From the Start menu or the Start screen:
    • Open Devices and Printers.
    • Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window.
    • Click on the Drivers tab.
  2. Select the printer driver you wish to uninstall.
  3. Click the Remove button.
  4. Select "Remove driver and driver package" and click OK.

Step 2: Download and install the Drivers from the link: Full Feature Software and Drivers

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Thanks for the reply, this is for my client's PCs and I'll give it a shot next week.

I just found out yesterday that their second PC had scanning issues and could only get it working by reinstalling the 8620 via usb.  When I shared the printer to the original problem PC, it would connect, but would not print.  Running the HP printer diagnostic, both showed a network 8620 printer that does not show up under devices and printers.  On the second PC I was able to install the printer via Windows "add a printer" which naturally allows printing, but not scanning.

I think a recent Windows 10 update started these issues.

Hi @LSUfan4ever,

You are welcome.

I understand that you will try the steps later and get back to us.

Please follow the steps and let us know the results. The scanning issue on the 2nd PC may resolve by uninstalling and reinstalling the software.

I also appreciate your time and patience.

You have a good day ahead.
