I can't, for the life of me, figure out what the issue is with this printer. I've manually cleaned the print head, rinsed the waste ink tray, ran the "clean print head" process, ran the "printhead recover" process, and this is what I end up with. The quality bars on the print quality report are almost completely acceptable after running a "printhead recover" but there are lines throughout the image which leads me to try to clean the print head...which makes the print quality report look like the image below again. Printhead recover is the only thing that gives me mostly usable prints...but they're still not fully acceptable. Is there something else to clean that I've missed or do I have a defective printer? I really appreciate any help and suggestions. Thank you!

Also, I'd like to add that I've been having this issue for the past month and have been trying all of these different maintence and cleaning tasks and never once thought, "hey, I might have a failed part here." So today I called up good ol' HP and they let me know that I am almost two weeks outside of my warranty. Two weeks. I asked if an exception could be made since the issue occured within warranty and I'm barely outside of the expiration. Nope. After 22 minutes on hold the guy didn't even want to offer any assistance whatsoever. I asked for a manager and he shut me down and said the managers use the same system to order parts and it was useless to even try to ask. I don't for a second believe any of that...but I guess HP printers are only made to last a year if you're lucky, right?

Anyway, here's a scan of what the prints look like after a printhead recover. Quite a difference but there's still lines throughout it. It also doesn't stay this clear. After a few prints the right side of the page (approximately 2") start to add heavy lines similar to that of my original scan.

I too am having print quality issues with my X476dw. The first printer had to be replaced under warranty due to error code 0XC6fd0213. The second printer worked for about six (6) months before print quality started to fail. The usage on this printer was low as it is for my home office and only had 4,000 pages printed before the quality degraded.

I preformed the following on the 2nd printer:

  1. Replaced all ink cartridges
  2. Used HP paper with Colorlok
  3. Cleaned print head via menu
  4. Cleaned print head mannually
  5. Cleaned ink waste tray and roller

None of the above resolved the poor print quality. I contacted HP support and the unit was replaced under warranty. Upon arrival of the 3rd printer it would not allow me to use the setup cartridges as instructed so I used my original cartridges. Once setup was complete the sample print page was all faded and of very poor quality. I tried to perform a clean print head procedure from the menu but the printer just got stuck a 0% for an hour and I had to power off.

Contacted HP support and they informed me replacement printer was defective, really HP? Come on! They are now sending me my forth replacement X476dw printer. I believe the design of this printer was a lemon and should be recalled based on below;

  1. Purchase Officejet Pro X476dw new in September 2015 - failed in April 2016
  2. 2nd warranty replacement printer delvered in May 2016 - failed in January 2017
  3. 3rd warranty replacement printer delvered in February 2017 - failed right out of box. DOA!
  4. 4th warranty replacement printer to be delvered by end of February 2017 - results TBD.

This cannot be a case of bad luck but rather a severe design flaw of the printer which shoul have never been released to the public, shame on you HP! I hope others have a better experience....
