Hi,
Indeed 10.7 is the minumum Mac OS to support the printer.
You may try installing an alternate driver as a workaround and see if it may work:
- Download and install this package:
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL907?locale=en_US - Go to System Preferences > Print & Fax and click the plus sign.
- Select the listed printer, within the Print Using menu click on Select Printer Software and select the HP Officejet 6700, then press Add.
Now try printing using the created print queue and check if that may work.
For scanning you may try the 3rd party Vuescan app or use the Scan to Email feature from the printer screen which i more limited:
