I’m getting the same errors.I’ve just opened a new  cartridge two pack from Costco and I wasted a second cartridges telling me that there’s an error that there that these are an older generation. Even though one of the generations was already in this printer. The previous post didn’t actually explain how to fix it. Please tell me how to fix it.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I understand you are not able to use the new replacement ink cartridges due to this error. Apologies for the inconvenience caused. To assist you better,

If this is a genuine HP ink cartridge, I would need some information related to the ink cartridges and the printer which cannot be shared on a public post for security reasons. I have sent you a private message, reply to the message with the required details.

Hi,

The cartridges that I have came from an HP branded package and are genuine HP products.

In fact, when I first install, the machine recognizes them as genuine HP, the a few moments later I get the following error message:

“The indicated cartrdige is an older generation cartridge that does not work in in your printer. It can still be used with some older printer models.

If you do not own an older printer model and your cartridges is a genuine HP cartridge, contact HP Support for more information.”

At this time, I cannot use this printer at all – even though the black cartridge is nearly full.

I appreciate all of your help.

I am having a similar problem, computer will not print in black or color, color cartridges appear to be empty, replaced them with genuine hp 952 cartridges and the printer says they are obsolete, printer was able to use them just a few years ago.

It appears that HP sent a firmware update that basically  negates the functionality of any cartridges manufactured before that firmware update - even though they are genuine HP, and even though you paid good money for them.

I had a very similar experience and HP support was ZERO help with this problem.

I spoke with several support folks and none of them gave me any help other than tell me to buy new cartridges.

This seems like a terrible practice from HP. I own a print shop and I am actually in the market for a large format printer, but this makes me hesitant to buy from them again.

Just one more reason for me to never buy another HP product.

I am having same issue with my HP 6958 printer and a HP 7750. I had new black cartridge; changed out the 3 color ones with brand new HP cartridges purchased the day the problem started from Costco.... Is there a fix for this or is only option to trash these 2 printers and buy an NON HP printer? As well as the very costly unused ink cartridges??? Please advise - would like to be able to print.... Let me know soon.
