I have an Envy 4513 All-In-One printer. We like it a lot. Prints and scans great and have had no issues until this week. It appears to only be happening with the black ink. It's not printing either the top or bottom part of text on a line. It's throughout a document, a whole line at a time, not sporadic words. I've run the cleaning and alignment tools, quality diagnostics and cleaned the cartridge according to HP instructions. The ink levels are just below half full. I'm at a loss as to what the issue is. Please advise.

Thanks for stopping by the Hp support forums and a good day to you. I will be delighted to assist you here. Your commendable troubleshooting skills and immaculate attitude are greatly appreciated. Kudos to you for that.
- Did this happen after a recent power outage or surge?
- Do you think that it occurred after a recent software or Windows update?
- Did you replace ink cartridges and check again?
- What is the OS associated with the printer? Is it Windows or Mac?
For now, try these steps:
- Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-deskjet-f4500-all-in-one-printer-series/3944755/model/394475... and follow instructions from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer”
- Then update the printer’s firmware by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c02919168
- Use a USB cable to update the printer’s firmware.
- Now make photocopies directly from the printer without any communication from the computer.
- If it copies correctly and the Operating System is Windows then perform these steps:
- Run HP print and scan doctor by following directions from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02073861
Now check if the issue gets fixed. If the issue continues, then from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-4510-all-in-one-printer-series/7588794/model/7815379/do... (HP Printers - Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues) perform all the relevant steps if it has not yet been done.
- Step 1 to step 14. including replacing the faulty ink cartridge by evaluating and diagnosing the print quality report. This should fix the issue as long as the printer's hardware is not faulty. Otherwise, the printer needs to be replaced.
I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind. I will send you a private message to assist you with the next course of action. Check your forum private message box in the upper right corner next to the bell icon.
If it copies correctly and the OS is Windows then uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers at the root level by following these steps:
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
Restart the PC again.
Then download the latest full feature driver from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-4510-all-in-one-printer-series/7588794/mode... and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
It is alright to install it as a USB printer and later convert it to a wireless printer.
This should fix it for you.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

That seems like a crazy fix from HP. I have the exact same problem with my HP Envy 5055. I like the printer a lot, but I just changed the black only cartridge & it only prints the top or bottom of sentences. So one minute the printer is fine, and the second I change a cartridge it does it? Your fix is insane. It shouldn't take all those steps to fix a basic print issue. I have used the align & clean functions on the printer & it is still the same.

I read your quick response and thanks for replying. There is more to it than meets the eye. The printer seems to have a hardware issue.
Please follow the steps from my private message for further assistance to get it replaced.
Thanks and have a blessed week ahead.

I'm having the same issue as @kari3323.
My printer was working great, I changed the black ink, and now I'm having the printer problem of the top half of the lines of all black text not printing. Please advise.
Thank you!
