After installation, wireless printing, auto-on, and auto-off all worked fine. And it all worked fine again the next day. Then I unplugged the printer to move it to another room, and after that it would not receive and/or process print jobs -- they just sit in the queue with an Error-printing status. But I was able to un-install and re-install the printer and everything was fine again. Then I unplugged the printer for 10 minutes -- just as a test -- and plugged it back in again. Again it would not work, same problem as before. Using "HP Print and Scan Doctor" the printer is visible to the computer, but it won't proceed with the diagnostic step, presumably because it can't communicate properly with the printer. I also cannot connect to the printer on my web browser using the IP address that is on the printer config page. Has anyone else had this problem? What's the fix?

Hello,

Please make sure you have the latest firmware version installed,

I believe it may help resolving such a problem.

If the printer currently disconnected from the wireless network, make sure to reconfigure the connection after upgrading the firmware and check for any change.

You may find the latest firmware below:

I just read this comment in one of the negative reviews at Amazon.com about this printer :

"... if you ever unplug the device from power outlet, all wireless functions stop operating including AirPrint because the printer resets and thus removes the firmware update. Then you have to uninstall and reinstall everything including firmware. Disappointing."

If a firmware update is needed to resolve my problem, and if that firmware update will be lost whenever there's a power failure or I need to unplug the printer for some reason, then this is totally unacceptable.

Well, KUDOS go to Staples, because without any hesitation they took back my HP P1102W printer and gave me a full refund after about a week. I told them that I was unable to get it to work properly, despite countless hours of trying various things and corresponding back and forth with HP support several times. Staples even apologized (!) to me for my trouble  -- of course I told them it wasn't their fault and I was grateful for the refund.

I used to consider HP printers to be the best, but this was a very unpleasant experience. I'm still wondering why the various HP support people that I communicated with didn't know that the wireless settings and/or firmware would be lost if the power cable is disconnected (or, presumably, if there is a power failure). What a poor, unthinkable design, and what pathetic support.

Anyway, I'm planning to purchase a Brother HL2270DW now, and hoping that will work out better.
