I've tried installing two different P1606dn's on 3 different machines all running Windows 7 64bit and it fails to install on all of them. I have tried installing the printer with Adminisrtrator privileges in a user account and in the admin account. I've downloaded the basic host based drivers. I've tried the built in drivers and the one on the included PC. The setup craps out at the same spot on all off them on all 3 machines. I'm ready to take these P1606dn's outside and pull an "Office Space" on them.

download and run HP Smart Install Control Utility. Disable the automatic install to allow it to install correctly. It should now work

Interesting, well what we are going to do to get this installation to be successful is to start by trying to perform a clean uninstallation and reinstallation of the printer.

First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it. Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.

In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.

Then follow this link to download the full feature software and drivers for the printer. I see you are using the basic software, for this installation I will want you to choose the full-feature software and drivers :

Install that and let me know the result!

Have a great day!

Has anyone fixed this issue. I am having the same issue on a few of my users machines and not all of them are the same. I have tried all of the fixes in the above message and was wondering if there was a known fix. Please help.

I have deleted the temp files, I have downloaded the full version of drivers and tried to install the drivers.  During the install I will receive error message: Printer installation failed.  A new printer was not installed.

I am trying to connect the HP LaserJet P1606dn local with a USB cable on a Windows 7 desktop computer.  What is really strange is I have the printer working on a laptop. same printer, same drivers and prints just fine.  Please Help!!!
