I have an HP Pagewide MFP 377 dw printer.  The out of paper/load paper error came up.  I loaded paper but I keep getting the error message.  It says the tray is lifting but it does not print.  The load paper error keeps coming up.  I turned the printer off and back on but the same message appears.

Hello,

The PageWide printers will request that the user "Load Media into Tray" when the tray size and type settings do not match the print job size and type settings. My answer here is assuming that the printer has already gone through the calibrations when you first set up the printer.

Loading interactions:

  1. After you load media into a tray and close it
  2. the printer will tell you it is lifting
  3. if it detects media, it will show you a size and type  - this is a place to change the size and type if you loaded media that is different.

When you are printing from your Computer - say in Word, you would type your document and then select print. Assuming you have set up an HP Universal or 377dw specific driver, you should be able to select Printer Properties (highlighted in red on the image). Make sure that the Size (#1) and Type (#3) are the values you want (also make sure that they match the size and type set up earlier when loading the printer). For Paper Source ( #2) you can specify the Tray or specifiy Printer Auto Select. (if the size and type match on the print job and the tray, then Printer Auto Select will choose the tray automatically).

If you specify a Tray and your print job Size and Type values are different from the tray, then the printer will ask you to "Load Media into theTray" (assuming that the printer functionality:  Use Requested Tray is set to Exclusive). After you open close the tray, the tray settings will update to the Print Job values and pick/print.
