I HAD this problem and was told that the feed rolleres were NOT a replacement item. Fortunately, as this is an A3 printer, HP provided a "spare" set of rollers (on the left side which are only used for A3 paper!) I set about dismantling the printer but had difficulty removing the print carriage assembly (NOT the print head). Eventually, I used more force than previous and the assembly came free and all I needed to do was to disconnect the ink drainage pipes. The carriage restriction was a small ledge about 1mm wide on a metal support under which a plastic item fitted (a design fitting). With the carriage removed I was able to swap the feed roller assemblies. The fault on my printer was that the drive cog for the paper feed had sheered from the drive shaft. A drop of epoxy glue resecured the cog and the printer is now feeding the paper reliably. I also cleaned the rollers with a Platenclean print roller cleaner and restorer (PL100) made by [edited]. (My HP1320 printer had erratic paper feeds and I cleaned the rollers with it and all is fine now).
So this problem has been resolved and I would like to thank everyone who gave advice on the problem. By piecing together the replies I was able to eliminate many probable causes and go for the main problem. Thanks all.
My printing is not as fine as before but I think I might need a new print head as some of the gold contacts are looking worn.
Now I will turn my attention to the HP 7610 which will not accept custom specified paper sizes. It is a software problem and I need to find a way to break through the "HP protective barrier" and contact a software expert.
Goodbye for now.

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that your HP OfficeJet 7610 Wide Format e-All-in-One does not accept custom size paper.
This issue could occur if the driver settings are not correct.
Let's go through a few steps to resolve this issue.
And here's the step by step guide for you in the link: Creating Custom Paper Sizes
You may also check the link: Print Driver Settings Guide (Windows)
For larger prints, you may check the link: Printing on 11 x 17 or 13 x 19 Paper
Let me know how this works.
You have a good day ahead.

Hi Rainbow 23
Thanks for the links. I have tried them before. This evening I retried them in case there was something I missed earlier.
In the Print Server Options the previously defined paper size settings were there. However, they were not visible on the paper size display accessed from the print menu. There is one sentence in the document which concerns me. It is "If you input custom dimensions that your printer does not support, the new custom paper size does not display when you attempt to print." The HP7610 is an A3 printer so my size of 236 x 280 mm should be printable. (it is from the HP 7000.)
On selecting the "Advanced" option, only "Document Options" is visible. The "Paper Output" option is not present.
On using the Printer Driver settings Guide I get the same result - no custom size and no Paper Output option under the Advanced tab.
Another problem which occurres periodically is that only the first 17 paper sizes are available from the print menu. There is no chance of selecting A3 paper. This was frustrating as I used an 11 x 14 inch size to force the printer to print my album pages which is located below the 17th paper size.
I feel that there is something wrong in the software but I can't find anyone who will discuss this possability with me. Everyone, so far, tells me how to set the size, just as you did. It just does not work. I think about the way to customize toolbars where you have a split window with a list of menu options on the left side and you drag those you want on to the right hand side. Then you click on apply and you have your new or updated toolbar. Something like this is missing with the printer procedure. The apply button on the Printer Server Options window is never activated. Why is it there?
Do you have any further suggestions as I have tried everything except that which will resolve the problem.

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.
This issue could occur if the drivers are corrupted.
And here's the step by step guide for you in the links to uninstall and reinstall the drivers:
Step 1: Uninstall the Drivers:
Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)
Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.
Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:
- Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing one of the following:
- Click the Start menu and in the search field type 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click it in the search list.
- Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK.
- From the Start menu or the Start screen:
- Open Devices and Printers.
- Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window.
- Click on the Drivers tab.
- Select the printer driver you wish to uninstall.
- Click the Remove button.
- Select "Remove driver and driver package" and click OK.
Step 2: Download and install the Drivers from the link: Full Feature Software and Drivers
Let me know if this works.
You have a good day ahead.

Hi Rainbow23
Thanks for the suggestion.
The actions you propose are "dangerous" on my system because I can't download from the HP website. In the past I have only been able to download drivers in about 14Mb packages. It is NOT my system because downloads from other sites arrive without any problems. I have the HP driver installed but to get it I needed an HP engineer take over my computer and make the download and installation, bypassing the web interface.
Unless you can suggest something else, I will try next month when I have more data available. This month our allocation is close to our maximum as both my wife and I have spent time viewing on line auctions.
I will get back to you sometime in early April to let you know the outcome.
Regards
