Hi, my Photosmart 5520 is reporting 'Clear carriage jam' and having followed the instructions I cleared a stuck sheet however having done that it is still reporting the same issue. Also, the self help overview suggested I pull the print cartridge/head left fully and then to the right but it wouldn't budge an inch. More so when it's switched on the print head won't move to the centre when you lift up the scanner lid. I've tried resetting factory settings to no avail and can assure you no stuck paper is at all visible, any advice please? Thanks Alex

I will try and help from the information you sent.
Is the carriage jam to the far right in the machine then it might be that the ink cleaning system got stuck.
Or the carriage might have unhooked from it sliding rail. With the power shut down the head should move by hand.
Hope that this will be of help.

This sounds to me like the ink cleaning tray got stuck. If correct you mentioned a paper jam that was removed.
I think a piece of paper is stuck in the ink tray.
You will have to get the ink tray to release.Maybe by turning the rollers inside the machine by hand then the tray might release for you to move the head by hand and look for paper stuck in the far right hand side of the machine.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I followed your advice but to no avail, I can't see any paper whichever way I look in their and the price I initially removed was whole, no missing parts torn off so I'm thinking something else is holding it rigid. One of your advisory YouTube videos showed some rods of some variety that had to be moved back ( in this case the guy was showing how it may block the carriage from returning to the right hand side, not here of course) is that a possibility. I'm quite strong and this is clearly stuck, pull any harder and it would break, do you have any other advice please, it's strange, I've never observed this before?

I will try in my way to tell you how to do this.If you open the bonnet as to replace tgeink and look inside the machine.
Look at the rollersfeeding the paper through the machine. The carraige will be on the right hand side.on the riht hand side of the roller there should be a gear turning the feed roller shaft.Try to turn that gear with a flat screwdriver but carefull not to break it.If you look at the parts under the caraige you will notice the cleaning tray should start moving under the head assembly. That should release the head to get it to move by hand.
I would once i get the head to move to the left, remove the ink cartridges and switch on the machine .Check if the head moves onto the ink cleaning tray and back to the position to replace the ink.
Hope this helps in my way of explaining.

Hi, that worked, the gears were quite rigid but i eventually got them moving enough to release the head. I took out the cartridges and replaced and everything went back to normal. Thanks for your help, you saved me buying a new printer there, much appreciated.
