Can you initiate a scan from your Mac Software - does that work?

After scanning from the software, try the front panel scan again - do you still get the error "Not Listed"?

If none of the above works, temporarily connect USB, add the printer (with USB as the Kind) and try the front panel scan to see if it works over USB (to see if it is a firmware issue). Does this work?

Do you have other printers installed, or just the 6510?

I open the HP Scan 3 icon from Applications, and I get "HP Scan 3 cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure HP Scan 3 works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X."

The Mac is only a month old, all sw is current.

It sounds like something might be wrong with the software/install - please run the HP Scrubber for Mac using the following instructions. HP Scan 3 should be working with 10.7, I have used it with the 6510 first hand, so the scrubber will remove all HP software and allow for a clean slate/fresh install of the software.

Scrubber
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall <<<< Scrubber Option
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish

Restart your Mac

Now, run a Software Update.

Finally, download and install the "Full Featured" Driver and Software from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page."

Note: If you initially installed with the CD that came with your product, I would recommend using the download option as any patches/updates will be implemented on hp.com, not on the CD.

I can't figure out the wireless part either but what I would like to know is where does the USB cord attach to?  The only thing I see on my printer is where it plugs into the outlet.  I know this sounds dumb but I have looked all over the printer for this..and looked it up to see if it even uses a USB cable.

Thanks it worked out perfectly.

For all of you out that have failed to get the HP Photosmart 6510 to work wirelessly with an Apply iMac - don't bother.  I have just spent 4 months trying to make it happen and have given up - life is too short.  Best thing to do is but a long USB cable and plug it in - it worked instantly for me and I no longer have to reboot every time I need to print!  Total cost of the USB cable - £7.50.  Total saving in time - priceless!

I have a Photosmart 6510 [0AEE5]

This has been a problem for some time.

Frustrated I carry my laptop to the printer and plug in the USB cable.

Finally, I decided to "try" to connect wirlessly.

"Bingo", after downloading the "fix" from h10025.www.1.hp.com the printer connected and all was great.

That was yesterday. Today the SAME problem stuck up his ugly head. Crap!

I again printed out the " HP Network Configuration Page" all was well. All information on this "page" matched the information as viewed on the printer display.

I have run out of hair from the top of my head and am throughly frustrated.

It's a shame no one at HP will ever read the numerous complaints they receive similar to this.

I guess I'll have to continue to carry my laptop to the HP Printer since the "wireless" option is Kaput!

Been there done that.

Why should it work yesterday and not today? Nothing has been changed.

My computer will talk to the printer, download it identification information.

It also is notifing me the amount of ink available.

It simply will not print.

Something is rotten in Danmark, or Washington DC

You too ? Mine works fine then overnight it doesn't.
I got tired of uninstalling, adding the same downloads, saying the same prayer, and of course the laying of hands.
I even talked to it nicely---JUNK

I have had this problem for some time.  I am not convinced it's the HP as I have several machines all running different operating systems (XP, Win7, Vista, Linux and Apple OSX ).  The ONLY machine that looses contact with the printer is the Apple iMac running OSX.  ALL the other machines find the printer every time.

After trying everything (including giving the HP a permanent network address) I finally solved the problem and returned to sanity by plugging the printer into a USB port on the Apple iMac.  It is no longer an issue!  I think it's OSX that's the problem.
