Hi
I have had a Photosmart C4580 All in One for about 18 months. It recently ran out of ink, and while it had no ink, I changed the router back to my original Netgear DG834G from an ISP provided one. I can't now change the network settings to match the new router. I have replaced the cartridges, uninstalled and reinstalled the printer, tried Change Network Settings from the installer package, but it comes up saying "The connected printer does not wupport wireless networking" even though the wireless light on the printer is on. I have also defaulted the wireless settings from the printer.
I found comments on the net about setting the router to Channel 11 and 802.11b/g, but it was already set like that.
Anyone got any ideas?

Found the answer by searching this forum, here's the fix courtesy of DexterM
1. Turn on the Wireless Radio on the printer.
2. On your computer, search for all available wireless networks. You should find one named 'hpsetup'. Go ahead and connect to this network and ignore all warnings.
3. Wait for 1 minute after you connect to the network. Then print out a Network Configuration Page from the printer. It should list an IP address starting with 169.254.x.x.
4. Type this address into the address bar of any web browser. You'll come to the Embedded Web Server(EWS) of the printer.
5. Use the Wireless\Networking tab at the top and search for an Advanced option for '802.11 Wireless' networking. On this page, you'll be able to enter your wireless network settings(screenshot attached for ease of identification).
6. Make sure you change the SSID to the name of your network. Click on the 'Infrastructure' radio button and enter your WEP\WPA pasphrase. ENTER THE SSID AND PASSPHRASE EXACTLY AS IT IS, OR IT MAY NOT CONNECT TO THE NETWORK.
7. Click on the Apply button and wait for confirmation of the settings being saved.
8. Restart the printer. Printer the Network Config page again. Now it should have an IP address as assigned by your router and not with 169.254.x.x
Thought I'd post it here to help someone else, I've wasted enough time today!

That information helped a lot (wish I found it hours ago!), but when I go to print I get a message that the printer is offline, despite the network configuration printout saying everything is working fine and the signal is excellent. I can't reopen the 1.9.254... page and no longer have hpsetup as an option to connect to. Any ideas?

Hey there JBelle,
I saw your post about your printer showing as "offline". If this issue is still occurring, I do have a suggestion. I am going to post you a link below to your specific printer. You will need to select your operating system and then look for the guide labelled 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print'. From there it will give you step by step instructions on how to overcome this issue.
I hope this helps
Regards,
I work on behalf of HP

Thankyou very much!
I did not understand the concept of the Printer being a device which sends out a radio signal, which can be picked up by my macbook pro apart from my local WIFI network.
My printer works again now. So thanks again.

I followed these steps to do the same thing on my MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.9.3 (using letters so as not to confuse with original instructions):
A) Ignore steps 1 and 2. I didn't find a wireless network named 'hpsetup", or anything close to that. The printer should, however, be connected to the wireless network from which you'll be switching.
B) Follow step 3, as far as printing the Network Configuration Page. Then, as instructed, enter the Network Address (the group of numbers starting with "192.168. ") into the address bar of any browser, starting with "http://", without the quotes.
C) Click on the NETWORKING tab, then click on the ADVANCED tab. Under NETWORK NAME you should see SSID: . Delete what's in that box (It should be the network name you're switching from), and type in the name of the NEW network.
D) Scroll down and enter the password you use to access that network, in the appropriate box for whichever type of security it has. Confirm by entering it again.
E) Leave everything else the way it was and click APPLY.
F) Wait.
G) Wait some more.
H) Wait even more...really. It takes a while for the chageover to be made. This could be 10 minutes or more.
I) If done correctly, the window that had all the information from the printer will have refreshed to a blank page, because the printer isn't there any more.
J) Print a new Wireless Network Test Report and a new Network Configuration Page. These should have the new network's information on them.
K) If you'd like, you can enter the new network's IP address (the one starting with 192.168. ) into a browser address bar, as before. It should take you to a page very similar to the one you just left--but with the new changes included.
L) That's it...you're done. Be sure to update your computer's settings so it can find the printer on its new network (of course, be certain that your computer is signed on to that other network)--generally, this is "ADD PRINTER" in OS X's SYSTEM PREFERENCES under PRINT and SCAN; or in Windows, SETTINGS then CONTROL PANEL.

God bless you DaveMitch!!!
I can't understand how a huge company like HP does such a **bleep**ty job with such a complicated process to cxhange the networkl on which a computer is configured. I've been trying for weeks, and been wanting to do it this time without uninstalling and re-installing the whole driver... which has wasted a whole lot more time for me.,..
My issue on trying to do the steps on your post is that I dont see a 'hpsetup' wireless name on my list of available networks. Isn't it just the list that appears under "Networks & Connections -> Manage Wireless Networks'..?
Please advise.
Thanks!
