My Photosmart C4599 prints fine but I can't make the scanning function work.  I use Print and Scan Doctor and it says "cannot connect to your printer"  which is odd because it can print fine.  Any ideas?

@WildBill51

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand the HP Photosmart C4599 doesn't print anymore,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Which operating system are you using with the printer?

Did you check if the copier works as a standalone without the printer?

Do you have any error messages on your printer? if you do, try this: Click here

While I await your response, try the below steps:

Step 1: Confirm the issue is not printing-related

The steps in this document resolve quality issues when scanning only.

If quality issues occur when printing from the computer, do not continue with these steps. Go to HP Customer Support, type your printer model number if necessary, then search for print quality to find the Fixing Poor Print Quality document for steps to resolve the issue.

If quality issues occur when scanning, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Clean the scanner

Fingerprints, smudges, dust, or debris on the scanner glass, under the scanner lid, or in the document feed slot can cause lines and color bands. Clean these parts with a soft, lint-free cloth sprayed with glass cleaner.

Read one of the following sections for steps to clean these components, depending on your printer type.

Good Luck.

The printer copy function does not work either...I get the missing cartridge error.  I am done with this printer, bought a new printer today.  Thanks for trying to help!
