Hi.  I have an HP Photosmart D110.  It worked fine when i first got it.  Now, it will not pick up paper from the paper feed tray.  When i try to print, it starts processing the document, I can hear it trying to grab the paper, and then it says "lod paper into the tray."  It does this whether there are very few papers in the tray or a full stack.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

I followed the steps, none of them worked.  Guess I will be buying a new printer - not an HP!

I have one final trick I used to do to evaluate why exactly the printer would not pick up paper.  I would take a pencil and curl up the end of the page just a little bit so that it was able to feed into the paper tray. You will want the curled end to go in and up towards the printer. I know you will not want to do this every time you print but you will be able to tell that if this does not work then it could be a stripped gear caused by pulling a jammed piece of paper out the opposite way the gears were intended to turn.

You could always try another brand or type of paper as well.  I always liked heavier paper (>20lbs) because it looked more professional.  I know sometimes a hardware issue can not be fixed with just tricks of the trade but if the device is not making any clicking noises your printer could possibly be fixed.  Watch for the paper pickup arm to come all the way down and make contact with the paper.  If it does not do that it may have something lodged in that gear keeping it from coming all the way down and actually grabbing the paper.

These are quick steps that do not require much more effort.  Do a test print by making a copy of a plain white piece of paper to make it easier as well.  I really hope you are able to fix it.  If you are out of warranty you may also be eligible for a discounted printer with an affordable warranty (>$20), if those options are still available that is.  This is a fairly new printer so you may still be in warranty.  Check out this page to find out if technical support will replace it for free.

Had similar issue with a 3 1/2 yr old HP Photomart D110 that had been left in the garage for a few months.

We brought printer inside recently and connected it to our home network, but paper would not load when attempting to print a test page. "Out of Paper" error message resulted. We cleaned rollers, changed paper, etc. but nothing worked. After about 3 hours we tried one more time and the paper loaded as expected.

In this case, I believe the below freezing temperatures in garage somehow made the rollers unable to pickup the paper. Once the rollers reached room temperature the paper loaded normally and the test page printed. Perhaps the cleaning of the rollers helped, but I think the temperature change of the printer rollers from sub freezing to room temperature was the primary resolution here.
