Photosmart Plus B209a-m printe
macOS 10.12 Sierra

I have updated my Mac tabletop to OSX 10.12.3 Sierra which is the most up to date Mac OSX as of March 9, 2017. My previous OSX was El Capitan and the printer/scanner worked fine.

My HP Photosmart Plus All-in-One Printer - B209a-m scanner no longer works - it makes a pdf file with no error message but the pdf file when opened is black. It still prints documents.

HP Support website page has an update. I selected the OSX, and the closest version, 10.12, but there is no update button on the webpage. This is strange, as when I do this on my iPhone 6s there is an update button.

Can anyone offer advice - I'm about to buy a new printer and recycle this 7 year old one.....the ink costs a fortune anyways!

Thanks

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂

I understand that you have an HP Photosmart Plus B209a-m printer and since the time you have upgraded to Mac OS Sierra, the printer is unable to scan. However, the printing is fine. You 're unable to perform an update for Mac OS. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job. I'll do my best to help you out with this case.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Is the printer able to make a copy?

Meanwhile, I did some research and found that the full featured drivers for Mac Sierra are not available and that is the reason why the scanning may not be working. However, I have a workaround for this case that should make the scanning to work too. pLease follow the below steps to add the printer drivers using the Mac update:

  • Please download the Mac inbuilt drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2flF56z.
  • From System Preferences, click on Print & Scan.
  • Click the Plus sign.
  • Select the listed Photosmart Plus B209a-m (This printer's drivers should work).
  • Click the drop-down menu next to Use or Print Using and click on Select Printer Software.
  • Select the Photosmart Plus B209a-m from the list.
  • Click OK to confirm your selection and add the printer, then try printing using the configured print queue.

The above steps will help to add the print and scan drivers for Mac Sierra. ou could try to scan from Apple Image capture and check the results.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please do not hesitate to reply. Good luck! 🙂
