Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After wasting several hours on this issue, this is the only avenue left... Well that or downloading stuff from dodgy sites or just buying a new product. Not happy with those options...

The thing is, I got a new PC recently,  and tried to set up my trusty Photosmart c4480 scanner printer combo to work with it. But no dice. There are no drivers available.

The official HP site says that I should: "Install the HP Printer Driver and Software provided within your operating system."

Well, windows 10 can't find any, and just states that "Driver is unavailable."

Swell...

Why did you remove those drivers from the official site? It just makes people angry. And seeing as there are several threads of similar nature, it's a common problem.

I've been a HP customers for many years. I may not be the most prolific consumer of electric goods, but I've had several HP products over the years. Laptops and scanners and printers. I've liked them, I never had any issues with them.

I have no need to replace my c4480 right now. I mean, I suppose I could use a model that has a bit better scanning quality, or maybe a laser printer at some point, but at the moment it satisfies my needs adequately. And when the time comes to buy a newer model, I would've assumed I'd get a new HP to replace it. I've always bought HP scanners and printers.

But that ends here. I refuse to partake in a business model that tries to force me to buy newer version just because of drivers.

Just re-upload the drivers on the official site under legacy support header or something,

I will not download some random exe from some random website. If that is my only option,  I will rather just go and buy a new one from some other company.

And that is why keeping legacy support is important. For example: I was able, with a bit of work, to get even my age old Wacom Bamboo work on the new machine. And that thing is 14 years old. It's pretty banged up and definitely in need of a replacement, now that I no longer have the access to the one I used to have in the place I used to work. The old Bamboo works well enough, but I'll prolly buy a new one at some point later this year, and will have zero qualms about buying a new Wacom. Those guys understand the value of legacy support.
