Hi. I am new to HP printers and have a problem that I can't seem to sort out.

When I create a Word doc that i have inserted a picture into, its looks great in print preview, but when I print it up, a piece of the picture seems to get cut off, usually along the bottom of the picture but occasionally down the left side.

I am sure it is a 'settings' thing but can't work out what it is that I need to change to rectify the problem or am I barking up the wrong tree.

Any help with this problem would be gratefully appriciated.

Merc,

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

I don't know the answer.

The following might prove useful in helping you track down the culprit:

Manage Print Output with Print Preview

Take a look at your Margins settings in Page Setup (Print Preview).

In Word...

In particular, if the image(s) touch or are near the bottom of the document, say near where you might have placed page numbers, there are "invisible" barriers where the print output stops.

What that means exactly varies and depends on how you have placed the page numbers, how you have defined your footer margins, your printer margins as specified by the printer specs... complicated.. keep images away from the edge, in other words.

Paragraph and Line Spacing can affect Images placed within your Word document.  Not enough space before or after a line or between Paragraphs can cause trouble -- too little "line space" can cramp an image and cut it off.

See Section titled:

  • Microsoft Office Word -- recent versions
  • Word Images and Art are Chopped

Like I said, no Magic, just ideas.

You can also try:

  • Save as old-fashioned .doc
  • Save as WordPad
  • Save as PDF  to give you an idea of what is going on.  PDF has a slightly different Print Preview, too.
  • Always use Insert rather than Copy / Paste when placing images into Word.
