HP DeskJet 5740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently installed Windows 10 and while my printer works, I need to align the print heads. The issue is that there seems to be no tool box solution for windows 10. I do not want to have to buy a new printer just because of alignment issues that should be easily solved.

Hi @bobbybng, and Welcome to the HP Community,

I understand you are trying to align your print cartridges on your HP DeskJet 5740, and I would like to help.

Try these steps:

Aligning print cartridges

The printer automatically aligns the print cartridges after a new print cartridge is installed. You can also align the print cartridges at other times to ensure optimal print quality

To align print cartridges:

1 Load Letter or A4 plain, white paper in the In tray.

2 Open the printer Toolbox.

3 Click Align the Printer.

4 Click Align, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

I hope this helps.

As I stated in my original post, the tool box for this printer does not work in Windows 10. The options are there but they were faded out and were not active, clickable icons. I need a different solution (if there is one) as the toolbox solution will not work. THere is also no options for any services from anywhere else for this printer within windows 10. Am I just out of luck and have to buy a new printer?

Hi @bobbybng,

You can also try these steps to align the printhead without the printer Toolbox.

Source

I recommend starting by performing a 'hard reset':

1. Ensure your printer is powered on.
2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
3. Wait 60 seconds.
4. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
5. Press the Power button to turn on the printer (if it doesn't automatically reboot).

Next, with the printer powered on, remove all of the ink cartridges. Power the printer off with the power button and reboot immediately. Now, with the printer on, there should be a prompt to insert ink cartridges. Install the full set of ink as directed with the printer on. If it's working correctly it will ask you to do the alignments.

If you can still not align the print cartridges, I recommend you contact HP:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear
