Could not scan to computer. Wireless connection is unreliable. Scan Dr. would not work, stalled before completion. Decided to hard wire cable to network switch eliminating wireless connection. Ran Scan Dr. again and it worked just fine. Determined that HP wireless connection module in printer is hosed. Solution1) Buy new printer. Solution2) make hard wire cable connection to network switch. Hardwire works...Prblem solved..!

Greetings @Dakotablackdog

Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are unable to setup the printer over wireless.

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Are you able to print and scan with USB connection?

Have you installed the full feature software of the printer?

If you are able to print and scan using USB setup, please refer to this article to convert the USB connection to wireless.

Once the printer is configured on wireless. Please assign a manual IP address to the printer for stable wireless connection.

Please follow the procedure mentioned below to assign a manual IP address to the printer.

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer (which can found by pressing the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel)
  • Enter the IP address on the web browser (Ex: chrome, IE) to enter the printer EWS page.
  • Go to the “Network” tab, click on “Wireless (802.11) then click on “Network address (IPV4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual DNS server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Note: HP Printers do not work or connect to 5Ghz networks. If you are using a dual band router, please give different names to 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz networks and connect the printer to the 2.4Ghz network.

Let me know how it goes.
