When I use Print and Scan Doctor, I have version 4.9.  When I start it, the system says there is an update. I select to download it. It goes through the download and install process. It then tells me there is an update, click to download. Doing that the system just loops until I don't select the download.  It displays the equipment installed on my computer. I select the one I want and the program (still 4.9) runs and everything passes.  When I select test scan, it tells me my printer is not found.

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP Officejet 4635 e-All-in-One Printer and The Print and Scan Doctor states that everything passed. When you try to run a test scan, it does not detect the printer. I'd like to assist you with this case. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Did any hardware or software updates take place for the printer after which this issue may have started?
  • Did the scan work before or is it the first time installation?

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
  • Please try to make a copy, if the copy is fine then the scanning hardware should be good.

Once we testify that the scanning hardware is good then we can proceed to uninstall the software through root level and then reinstall it:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Now please download and install the drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2k9yRdP

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

Before I uninstall the printer, realize I can print from the computer .  What is happening is the Scan and print doctor is identifying the incorrect printer and will not allow me to change it to the correct one.  I have two printers installed on my computer, one in New York, one in Florida.  I have scanned on the NY printer but don't remember if I ever scanned on the Florida printer.

Is it possible to uninstall the Scan and Print Doctor program and reinstall it?  Or does that come off the disc that comes when you buy the printer?

I have one computer with 2 printers.  I move the computer between States.

Thanks for replying and explaining it even more clear. 🙂 I appreciate that.

HP Print Scan Doctor is an executable file and hence is not installed in your computer. That is the reason you do not find the application in your programs list.

If you want to remove the program, you simply delete the HP PSDR from your file location. so, right click on HP PSDR icon and select "open file location". Delete the HP PSDR folder to remove the program completely from your computer.

To fix issues with HP Print and Scan Doctor you could also install this updated file: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/HPPSdr.exe

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

Good luck  🙂
