It is true that your Photosmart B209a is not compatible with Airprint. You can however print from your iPad to your HP printer by using a free HP app downloaded from the Apple app store. HP ePrint Home and Biz will allow you to print photos, PDF and other files and print web pages.
Here is a link for more information.

Unfortunately, the app does not detect the B209a since the printer does not have an ePrint button. Also, since it's not an ePrint printer, it doesn't have an e-mail address, which is the only other way to get the app to connect. If the app would simply allow me to enter the printer's IP address, it would probably be fine. Perhaps some intrepid HP employee would update the app so it works with wireless printers that aren't ePrint capable.

Hi SlushPumper,
The app, HP ePrint Home and Biz is designed to work with both ePrint capable models and older models too. The benefit of having the ePrint capable printer in this case is enhanced functionality.
It is true the app requests to be registered, this is asking for your own personal email address and to that address a PIN is sent to complete the registration. Again, an ePrint capable printer is not required for this step.
There are some requirements to get the printer and iPad to work, mainly that they both be attached to the same wireless network. Once the printer and iPad are on the same network, the app should detect the printer. There is no need to enter an IP address into the app to aid this discovery.

Took all the steps suggested in this email. Nothing worked. HP ePrint can nor see the printer but HP iPrint did. Not sure what happened but they no longer work together after upgrading to ePrint version. I can access the printer config through the IP but the printer app will not find it. What is going on?
