You specific error is not listed in the service manual. Most times on this printer jams occur behind tray 1 on the path coming up from the tray(s). Remove the toner cartridge and lift the flap on the registration assembly to see if you can see part of a sheet starting to come up from the bottom. If necessary remove the envelope feeder plastic piece in front and then lift up on the plastic piece which is spring loaded in front to get a better view. If a jam behind the best method is to cut down a stiff file folder to half or less paper size and feed from the bottom up to force the media to the top where you get get to it. Otherwise you will have to remove the manual tray (tray1) assembly which is not a fun job.

The event code:  13.B9.FF indicates that the printer believes there is a jam at the fuser output sensor, at power on.  That means that printer has been power cycled, and the printer detects paper under the fuser output sensor while checking during the boot process.

I would recommend the following (in order):

  -  Open the top cover, remove the toner cartridge, and make sure there isn't any paper in the area.

  -  Open the back cover and make sure there isn't any paper in the area.

  -  Remove the back cover and remove the fuser by squeezing the blue tabs on the fuser.  Again, make sure there isn't any paper in the fuser or in the area.

Keep in mind that you might be looking for a sheet of paper, or a scrap of paper.  It is possible that a page was torn while clearing a jam and left a corner under the sensor.  That is enough to cause this jam code.

To reassemble, the fuser should easily snap back into place.  The back cover can be a little tricky to get back into place.  The lower tabs that pivot the back cover should fit into grooves in the sheet metal on each side.  When lined up correctly, it will snap into place.

If this doesn't fix it, you might need to have a service person look at it.  It could be a scrap of paper where you can't see it, or the paper sensor might be bad.

The event code: 13.B9.FF indicates that the printer believes there is a jam at the fuser output sensor, at power on.

ALL 13.B9 errors are fuser jams related to the fuser output sensor PS700. These will be displayed as 13.B9.yz

The last set of characters will define the type of JAM the machine reported.

The First character represents the Type of Jam.
  • A = STAY (paper is still present after x amount of time)
  • D = DELAY (paper did not reach sensor in time)
  • C = WRAP (media possibly wrapped at fuser)
  • F = RESIDUAL ( Paper present at sensor during power up)

Less Likely ones but still possible

  • B = Multifeed
  • E = Door Open
The Second character defines the tray the media was printing from.
  • 1 = Tray 1
  • 2 = Tray 2
  • 3 = Tray 3
  • 4 = Tray 4

I would recommend following steps:

Open the top cover, remove the toner cartridge, and make sure there isn't any paper in the area.

  -  Open the back cover and make sure there isn't any paper in the area.

  -  Remove the back cover and remove the fuser by squeezing the blue tabs on the fuser.  Again, make sure there isn't any paper in the fuser or in the area.

If you donot find the paper, it is possible that the fuser is faulty and you might need to have a service person look at it.

If the y of F = RESIDUAL ( Paper present at sensor during power up, what does the z of F equal? It's not listed.

I'm getting this error during a print job, not at power up. It's in an english Writing lab at the university so it get's quite a bit of usage.  Any other ideas?

is the first character which can be A through F. The z is the second character which can be 1 through 4 indicating the source tray.

If you were having a fuser output jam the prime suspect is the fuser itself.

In my case as mentioned before, z is not 1-4. It is F. I've a fuser that was replaced for PM. I'm going to put it into the printer and see how it acts. I'll update at the end of the week.
BTW, thanks for the reply...
