Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums. Can you try the following:

Please Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR) tool to diagnose and fix your problem

http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-926&h_lang=en&h_client=s-h-e016-1&h_keyword=dg-PDU

Hope that helps.

No answers from my side.  My 8600 went offline ... again (has happened several times), and I've tried "everything": re-boots; uninstall/re-install.  Now on re-install, it "partially" installed my Fax function, but when I try to complete the installation ... my computer can't find my printer any more.  Won't accept the IP.

Hi @Storm_Watcher-9,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

A) Can you try this self-help document for Offline issues?

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05083107

B) If that doesn't work,  please Uninstall and Reinstall the FULL feature software following these steps:

1. Uninstall the software in your computer

Can you try this Uninstaller from Microsoft and then reinstall the FULL feature software again?

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed...

2. Download and save the FULL feature software (do not install it online)

The following resource will help you :

http://123.hp.com/us/en/

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.

3. Install the FULL feature “Saved” software

C) If that doesn't work, try this :

Start > Devices & Printers > right click printer icon > printer properties > click on printer icon > advanced >

Instead of selecting "Always available", select "Available from". I selected  a time available from 3am to 2am.

Click OK.

Hope that helps!

Appreciate the helpful response to my inquiry.  Your suggested link led to a problem related to Mac computers and a printer other than 8600.  I'm on Surface Pro 4/Windows 10, and I have tried all protocols recommended from all sources I've been able to find.  My computer can still not "find" my printer, and vice versa, even though the printer is listed 3 different ways on my list of installed Printers (one as a Fax, one as straight HP OfficeJet 8600, and one displaying the IP address of the printer).

I've done the re-boot, the uninstall/re-install, the wizard, the router-ethernet connection, the straight wireless connection, etc.  I've tried about a dozen times.  No response.  The Fax machine only asks for me for who I want to send a fax to; the other two entries give me immediate Error messages.  But, of course, there is no clue from those Error messages as to how to fix the Error.  All troubleshooting protocols take me to the same series of steps, or just end up not being able to identify the problem.

Followed all steps from the link, all the way through, for about the 10th time.  This time it re-named the printer I was looking for, adding the e911n tag - showing up on the Printer list as HP Officejet 8600 (Network).  Told me it wasn't installed, so it took me into download, etc.  I completed the process, and the result was that it was a "successful download."  It is indeed a selectable printer on the now-crowded Printer list.  But when I select it to print, I still get the immediate Error message - and no print job.  Again, no clue as to "why" it's an Error, and no remedy offered.  I've been through the standard protocols a dozen times now - with no success.

Hi @Storm_Watcher-9,

Thanks for the quick reply and fabulous troubleshooting. 🙂 Don't worry. We still have some aces up our sleeve.:)

Please perform a semi full reset on the printer. I will send you a private message on how to do it. Please keep checking your private messages also.

Follow these steps.

Please perform a semi full reset on the printer first.

Then uninstall the printer software from this link:http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02259020

After that remove the printer drivers by performing these steps.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.

Then download and install the latest full feature printer software from this link: http://hp.com/drivers  and follow the on-screen instructions.

Then please check again if it works. If it does not please assign a manual IP address for the pritner and  and check again..

Thanks for everything so far.

Not yet an "accepted solution."  Did a semi-full reset of the printer.  Won't let me complete the process, because one of the cartridges is low.  Freezes the panel with no other options.  So I'll have to get my new color cartridges in before that will complete.

But, I did try to Test Print, and it immediately said it could NOT communicate with the printer.

Will change out the cartridges tomorrow, re-activate my fax, and then see if it all works.  Back in touch as it comes together.  Almost there.
