HP Envy 5660e-all-in-one serie

Every time Windows 10 is updated my printer stops working.  Often the message is "Printer is offline."  This time, the message is "Printer needs intervention."  I have no idea what this message means.  Yesterday I poked around on the little screen on my printer and it suddenly started printing.  I turned on my computer today to do some additional printing and once again, the message "Printer needs intervention" is there.

Hi @Trombone51

Welcome to the HP Forums!

This is a wonderful place to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.

I reviewed your post and understand that you are getting an error saying printer needs intervention and you are unable to print.

Don’t worry, I’d love to help!

I recommend you follow below steps to reset the printer. Resetting the printer and the computer can help resolve error conditions.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

  1. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  2. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

  1. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

If the issue persists, follow the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

Hi The_Forsette:

Thanks for the reply, I tried your suggestion but it did not work.  I ran Print and Scan Doctor again and got wrenches by the "Print Queue" and "Port Match."  Naturally, I don't know what that means.  I also got a suggestion to establish a "Static IP Address" in response to a past post and was directed to a video.  I kept forgetting what the video said to do and just gave up.  At one point yesterday afternoon the printer decided to work.  I don't know why, but it's not working again today.
