I just replaced my black cartridge. When I closed the lid, a message came up telling me that "an ink carrtidge is missing or damaged. Install or replace cartridge.

I opened the lid to do so and normally that cartridge carriage would move to the left, providing access to the cartridges. The carriage does not move however.

I have restarted / unplugged for 30 seconds both computer and printer numerous times; the result is the same.  How do I get the carriage to slide left?

Thank you.

Greetings @schuetz1619

Thanks for the post.

I understand that you replaced an ink cartridge on your printer, closed the access door, got an error for the cartridge and now the carriage is not moving for you to reseat the cartridge.

Kudos to you for trying the troubleshooting steps.

Not to worry, I will be glad to help.

Have you tried to move the cartridge manually?

Request you try to move the carriage manually while the printer is off and disconnected.

If the carriage does not move. Please contact our phone support for the service options.

If the carriage moves, move it to the end and then power on the printer and check.

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you very much for the response.

I  turned the machine off 30 minutes ago by pressing the on/off button. I just started it up again.

After initialization I got an error message that the machine was previously turned off incorrectly, and that  to avoid damage to the unit I need to turn it off by pressing the on/off button. Since I had indeed turned the unit off correctly, I know this is spurious.

When I clear this message I get another to the effect that one or more ink cartidges is/are defective and to replace the offending cartridge. I then raise the lid, as I always have, to access the cartridges. Normally opening the lid causes the carriage to move left, providing access to the cartridges. It does not move now, however.

At this point another message appears, instructing me that the lid is open, which of course, I know.

I have attempted to move the carriage to the left with the power off. It seems that considerable, probably excessive force would be required to do this, so I have not pushed my luck.

Any other ideas?

Thank you for offering to explain ervice options, but if there is nothing I myself can do, the unit is not worth repairing, and you need not take your time to go into this.

Best wishes,

Schuetz1619

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps. If the cartridges are not moving even if you try to move the cartridges with your hand while the printer is off. Is it most likely a hardware issue and request you to contact our phone support for any service options.

Keep me posted.
